Missing My Mom

mom-at-the-christmas-cabin2

Her smiling face and her voice laced with gentle laughter

 Quiet moments resting in her favorite chair.

 Long walks around the fields to the hidden pond

 Just to hear frogs croak and melodious birdsong.

 Clanging sounds and sweet aromas drifting from the kitchen

 With sourdough bread and pineapple ham baking in the oven

 Busy hands and nimble fingers moving in rhythm

 Crocheting a doll, slippers or perhaps a colorful afghan

 Grand Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations

 With the house full of joyful and elated loved ones.

 Keeping us all together on a thundering, stormy night

 To lessen our cries, our fear and overwhelming fright.

 On a cold wintry day, building a fire in the fireplace

 So we can rest in its’ warm, and comforting embrace.

 Long, peaceful visits on a quiet summer eve

 Such sweet memories that will never leave.

How do I Love you Lord?

Revered Poet Emily Dickenson once wrote,

“How do I love Thee? Let me count the ways.”

Well Lord Most High, how do I love you?

Let me lift your name in thankful praise.

How I so love you in the morning

When the sky is sea-blue and sun is brightly shining.

I also love you through the long and winding day

And when I am confused and don’t where I am going,

You ever so gently lead me the way.

I also love you even as the rain is softly strumming;

For I know there may be a rainbow later today.

I love you too when the sun is softly setting;

Although it hides below the horizon,

You promise never to leave but always stay.

I still remember Lord, how by grace you sent your

 Son Jesus even though I kept on sinning.

And you let him die to atone for my wicked ways.

Finally, Lord, I love you through the deep night when

 I am restless, weeping, or so vividly dreaming;

With love, you keep silent watch until once again, I wake.

A Beam of Sunlight

I awoke early one grayish morn

And gazed into a cloudy haze,
“Oh no! rain was threatening to dampen

This start of a brand new day.”

But as I journeyed beneath the

Dreariness of the billowy sky,

I did by chance took a glance at

An opening that appeared on high.

Where the misty barrier of clouds

Did suddenly separate

Allowing a hint of sunlight to

transport down and penetrate

Through the filmy atmosphere

And rest upon the quiet land;

As if a brilliant white sunbeam was

Just cast down from heaven.

To uplift with a sense of hope

In the hearts of all who know

That the Lord from far above

Is watching over and showing us his love.
