Becky’s Freku: Like a River

I have recently learned about a new poem style known as a freku. It begins with a free verse poem and then concludes with a summarizing haiku; hence the term freku. This is my second try with such a poem.

038

Like a river that gently comes and goes,

The day opens and flows before me.

Like a river that turns and bends, it unfolds

With unknown events; hidden and unseen.

And like a river softly forever lapping in a

Continuous tinkling stream,

I must trustingly wade through this new day

By walking with the Lord in faith and

Letting him lead me the way.

Like a river that

Flows, must keep on trusting and

Faithfully follow.

Becky’s Haiku: Charm and Look

023

Little snowfall is

A charm; a blinding blizzard

Then I’ll look alarmed.

I have just attempted yet another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “charm” and “look”. These prompts from Ronovan can really be a fun challenge.  If you like writing poetry challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-74-charmlook/.

Descending Darkness

Today, I learned about a new type of poem called a Freku.  This style of poetry includes a free verse poem which is then summarized at the end with a haiku. This is my first try at such a poem. Hope you enjoy reading it.

018

Darkness descends once again

Signaling the beginning

Of a long wintry night

Where the sun has dipped below

The distant and shrouded horizon

Slipping silently out of sight.

Oh that frigid winter is still coming

As its annual arrival is a calculated certainty

When the temps keep steadily falling

To zero degrees and below; so I think, “Woe is me.”

For blessed warmth I then dive

Beneath my layered bedding

Trying to stay warm and alive

When I begin to feel the drafting

Breeze seeping its way in.

So underneath my cavern of blankets

I then rest, think, and pray

As I quietly wonder and

Silently contemplate.

The darkness surrounds me

Like a thick shroud;

It wraps and securely

Hold me in its gripping mouth.

No flicker of light

Can I perceive

In this deep darkness

Which keeps hold of me.

I strain to vainly hear

With my dull ear, a slight

Sound; a hint of a whisper.

But no such tone reaches me;

I resolve to remain content in quiet peace

Knowing full well that the darkness will fade

Revealing a new and sun bright day.

For now though, I will settle in

Closing my eyes in a gentle sleep;

Safely tucked in for the night and

Hoping to have a sweet and pleasant dream.

As the deep darkness

Descends, I rest and hope to

Have a pleasant dream.

Becky’s Haiku2: Cake and Wolf

008

Like a mad wolf, I

Ravenously devoured

 my cake in one gulp.

I have just tried a second attempt at the haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “cake” and “wolf”. I am enjoying the challenge of trying to use such seemingly different and even opposite words in such a short poem.  If you like poetry challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-74-cakewolf/

Drenched and caked in mud,

The lone wolf silently crept

Through the rain and woods.

Ummm, please use your imagination to see the wolf! I have just attempted yet another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “cake” and “wolf”. Staying near His THRONE OF GRACE

745

Thankful to be in his presence

His hovering Spirit gently attends

Reaching and teaching my soul

Of his forever lasting love to behold.

Nearer and nearer he comes to me

Every moment I remain content to receive

Of his generous blessings and wisdom;

Future insights of his heavenly kingdom.

Gentleness and peace he bestows in me

Refreshing my spirit ever so tenderly.

After living in dark hopelessness

Covered now and protected in his caress

Everlastingly and forever blessed.

Kathy’s Haiku: Black and White

Trailing Rainbow
Life is rarely just
Bland old Black and white also
There are rainbows bright

My cousin who contributes to my blog just attempted a haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “black” and “white”. These prompts from Ronovan can really be a fun challenge to the mind.  If you like writing poetry challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-73-blackwhite/
