Guest Poet: Kathy B

Misty Rose Bush

My sweet and talented cousin wrote a very beautiful haiku and wanted to share it. She is a very busy lady right now as she is working hard on her college degree and completing an internship. However, she will be struck by a creative burst of writing when time allows and so here she is in her own words:

Kathy’s Haiku: Sheltering Friends

Sheltering my friend

Like Jesus told us to do

Love I try to send.

Becky’s Haiku: Friend and Shiver

Springtime, friends, and strolls

By the river; sweet joys make

Me smile and shiver.

I have just attempted yet another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “friend” and “shiver”. I am enjoying the challenge of putting different and even opposite words in such a short poem.  If you like challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/category/haiku-prompt-challenge/

Becky’s Haiku: Lift and Plan

014

Sun is lifting and

Time to follow the plan God

Has outlined today.

Take a stroll and find

That rutted path where in the

Warm sun He awaits.

See that forest and

In those trees, find your trail

 in nature’s beauty.

Rise up and take that

 stroll; or this day’s adventure

You will never know.

I also have started participating in a photo word challenge with the haiku and this week’s photo word challenge is “outline.” You can find more photo word challenges at this link: https://thearanartisan.com/photo-challenge-words-2016/

Becky’s Haiku: Class and Firm

746

Mountain pines towered,

Nature’s class of elegance;

Resolute and firm.

In time they’ve weathered

Through storms of wind, snow, and rain

Solid, determined.

They’re a testament

To all who journey and see

Their hidden beauty.

I have just attempted yet another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “class” and “firm”. I am enjoying the challenge of putting different and even opposite words in such a short poem.  The challenge can be in just determining a suitable topic to bring the words together.  Plenty of times, I have sat here looking at a blank page just trying to think of such a subject. If you like challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link just to see where your own creative mind will take you: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/category/haiku-prompt-challenge/

A Perfect Day

014

A perfect day is

One spent with the Lord

By praying and reading his word.

Seeing him in the glowing sunbeam

And hearing him whisper in the breeze.

Feeling his warmth surround your spirit and soul

As you quietly wander along the road.

Seeing him in the beauty of all creation;

In the forest, the shimmering sea, and the lofty mountains.

It is hearing him in the songbirds’ sweet melodies

And in the rushing currents of the river stream;

When you quietly sit and gladly take a rest

Letting this day heal you with gentle peacefulness.

It is not worrying about the duties of tomorrow

Or regretting the past in deep sorrow.

It is not worrying about those who don’t understand or don’t like you

Because they don’t really know your inner beauty or unique attributes.

Instead it is a day of  thankfully remembering

That the Lord’s love for you is never ending.

It is a day of enjoying many precious moments

Unhurried and allowing time to slow down a bit.

It is not  a day of fear or dread;  nor of stressing

But instead a time of seeing hidden blessings.

Hearing a favorite tune wafting through the air

And suddenly realizing an answered prayer.

The perfect day is one set aside just for you and the Lord;

Relishing in his presence, his love, and the hope he gives forevermore.

Becky’s Haiku: Midnight Flash Dance

018

As lightning flashed across the dark sky,

It danced eerily in the night.

I have just attempted another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “flash” and “dance”.  It is a very enjoyable challenge to try to fit two assigned words into a very short poem and it make sense.  If you like challenges and haiku poetry then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/category/haiku-prompt-challenge/

In the Midst of Night

004

In the midst of night

Snow drifted softly down;

It swirled and blanketed

The once bare ground.

In the midst of night

The north wind emitted a chilly breeze

Which swished and swept through

The stillness and the forest of trees.

In the midst of night

Dark clouds gathered on the horizon

Effectively obscuring the deep sky

And masking the distant starry vision.

In the midst of night

I slept unworried and not knowing

That outside my home frigid winter had

Returned as it was steadily snowing.

Becky’s Limerick: Reluctantly I Leaped

014

Tis Monday and a fresh start of a new week

And, reluctantly, I rolled and leaped to my feet.

I gazed at the busy day ahead

With anticipation and some dread.

A wintry chill in the morning air; not so sweet.
