Becky’s Haiku: Trill and Final

014

In a musical

Trill, she sang gladly as she

Climbed the final hill.

I have just attempted yet another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “trill” and “final”. I am enjoying the challenge of putting different and even opposite words in such a short poem.  If you like poetry challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/category/haiku-prompt-challenge/

Becky’s Freku: Hope in WINTER

Pics from Camera 2-8-2015 378

Winds brisk and frigid sweep across the prairie and through the quiet pine needled forest.

Icicles, like long, slender fingers stretch downward; determined to reach and touch.

Nighttime snowflakes swirl and flutter, softly blanketing the frozen land.

Trees, stripped bare of their colorful leaves, sway yet still rigidly stand.

Even so, the coldest and blusteriest day might reveal bright and wondrous hope;

Reaching and arching high in a blistery sea blue sky can be a brilliantly glowing winter rainbow.

Wintry days, frigid

And brisk reveal bright hope with

A winter rainbow.

Becky’s Haiku: Style and Fresh

023

The style is layered

Clothes when dressing to walk in

The cold and fresh snow.

I have just attempted yet another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “style” and “fresh”. I am enjoying the challenge of trying to use such seemingly different and even opposite words in such a short poem.  If you like poetry challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/category/haiku-prompt-challenge/

Becky’s Haiku: Hope and Crystal

015

Choosing hope is crystal clear; that is

to live in faith instead of fear.

Once Upon a Rainy Saturday

029

I searched and found a book to read once upon a rainy Saturday

When I didn’t need to venture out but could peacefully listen to the rain.

There’s something sweet and refreshing when just quietly resting

While listening to the pelting stream; it’s staccato rhythm almost caressing.

So I rested upon my soft bed feeling warm, content and snug

And I opened up a book; one that I have read just once.

As with hidden anticipation I read page by page,

I became enveloped and was transported to another place.

And lo, I also entered another era of time; sometimes the past or the future.

I then see another world which only my mind can view and capture.

And soon along the story line I find my ever persevering hero

And closely follow him through his trials and many troubles.

Oh how I do root my hero and become ever so worried

As problems abound and to succeed he must indeed hurry.

He must find his courage and discover his inner confidence

Before it is too late as timeliness is of utmost essence.

As I eagerly read along, I also quietly stop and pause;

I contemplate and wonder while hearing the drumming rain outside.

Then I close my ever sleepy eyes and take a nap for just a bit.

But soon opening my eyes again I find the page where I had left.

So page by page I read the story to the end

And relish in the final victory my brave hero has won.

Twas such a pleasant and ever delightful way

To spend once upon a rainy Saturday.

Becky’s Haiku: Vast and Clear

One winter day a

Sundog did appear when the

Sky was vast and clear.

Becky’s Song: Being Thankful in January

IMG_20151226_125714282_HDR

(Tune: Deck the Halls):

January is too cold fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

And I can tell I’m getting old fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Oh this weather and the temperatures, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

I cannot so easily endeavor, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Tis the season to hibernate, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Stay inside until Spring’s first day, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Oh but then I might miss some fun, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

And not see the bright rainbow sun, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Also no sledding or skiing, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Nor walking beneath snow glistened trees, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Nor making angels in the snow, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

All because outside I won’t go, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

So, I guess I’ll venture outside, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Now that the bright sun did arise, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

And continue on life’s journey, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

And try to see this new day’s blessings, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

It is still the time to be thankful, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Knowing that God is faithful, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

He has promised to never leave me, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

And lovingly he’s always providing, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

So now as I step into the cold, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Following a snow swept road, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

I will remember that Jesus is with me, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Sheltering me in his love and peace, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Have a bright year new

That is improved from the last

Tears will just not do.

Becky’s Freku: A Wintry Scene

IMG_20151226_125714282_HDR

A winter snowscape awaited me

As one day I gazed out to see

The slender trees mostly bare of their leafy crowns

Motionless as statues in the morning dawn.

Pale sky and ground white with snow

Greeted me outside my window.

A damp chill hung in the wintry air

While inside the temps remained warm and fair.

Such as still and quiet scene

Covered by a soft blanket of gentle peace.

It is the Lord’s loving and nurturing way

Silently reminding that everything will be okay.

Chilled wintry day touched

By God’s peace and grace; I then

Know all is okay.
