Another Haiku Just for Fun

016

Inspired by other poets in my poetry class who are writing multiple haiku’s about water which included a simile, I decided to attempt another one. I was amazed at all the different ways, people thought about water.

Drip

I hear a drip drip

from a  tap sounding like tick

tick of my father’s clock

Poetry 201 Assignment One: Water

441

I have enrolled in a poetry writing class and my first assignment was to write a haiku about water. So here is my try at a haiku. I haven’t written those in a long time so this is good practice. This type of poem has 3 lines; the first line contains 5 syllables, then next line 7 syllables and the last contains 5 syllables.  Do you think I completed the assignment correctly?  Anyway here is my haiku:

Tinkling of a stream

Deep inside the forest green;

A hushed melody

Thinking about My Mom on her Birthday

011_8A

Today, February 13th, 2015 would have been my mom’s 70th birthday. How I miss her and so wish I could see her smiling face and hear her voice with quiet laughter once again. It was a busy day at work today, but she was in my mind and heart through all the day. She is in heaven now where there is no more tears, sickness, or pain. And she can walk and rest in heaven’s garden to her heart’s content with Jesus always at her side. On this special day, I am re-posting a poem in honor of her and all the memories and her sweet love which she planted inside of me:

Missing My Mom

Her smiling face and her voice laced with gentle laughter

Quiet moments resting in her favorite chair.

Long walks around the fields to the hidden pond

Just to hear frogs croak and melodious birdsong.

Clanging sounds and sweet aromas drifting from the kitchen

With sourdough bread and pineapple ham baking in the oven

Busy hands and nimble fingers moving in rhythm

Crocheting a doll, slippers or perhaps a colorful afghan

 Grand Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations

With the house full of joyful and elated loved ones.

Keeping us all together on a thundering, stormy night

To lessen our cries, our fear and overwhelming fright.

On a cold wintry day, building a fire in the fireplace

So we can rest in its’ warm, and comforting embrace.

Long, peaceful visits on a quiet summer eve

Such sweet memories that will never leave.

Gazing at the STARLIGHTS

003

Sun has silently dipped down and

Twilight has gently dawned

Across shadowy fields and the darkened horizon.

Revealing very soon while encircling the pale moon

Lights, minute and sparkling; a tuneless melody

In the clear, wintry night sky.

Glowing, glittering gems resting beneath

Heaven’s vast midnight canopy

Touching our souls and whispering tenderly,

Sleep in peace and quiet hope tonight.”

Night of the Talking Computer

003

It is usually quite the challenge for me to write a humorous piece but every so often I feel compelled to try. Recently, I had a long night working on my old laptop computer to complete a certain task assigned to me.  It was a very, long  and frustrating night but afterward, I felt I had a rather comical tale to tell. It is interesting how, God helps me see humor in a trying situation. I hope my silly story here helps you to have a small laugh and a smile today:

One night I stayed up late as I had a computer date.

A task I must complete so I typed and typed upon that screen.

I finally had all my typing done and time for the printing to begin.

Easy task I thought: just tether my computer to my printer

And then tell my computer to go while watching the paper smoothly flow.

But lo, I found I was very wrong for I pressed ‘print’ and no printing had begun.

Computer and printer would not communicate so I wailed with no time to waste.

I looked again upon the computer screen which reported an urgent message to me;

It seems I needed just the right driver to finish connecting to the printer.

The driver was a software program instructing my printer how to run.

That driver was needed I well know to tell my printer to print and go.

But where was that driver I had no clue; I searched and search until I was weary blue.

With no driver I would not finish on time, I wouldn’t be done by the determined deadline.

So dejected, I sat on the floor and wailed and cried a little more.

Oh where did that driver run off to? No time to go AWOL as we have important work to do.

My computer demanded his presence; he mustn’t go missing; he cannot be absent.

Finally it dawned on me just where that sneaky driver might be.

I hurried to my wearied feet and lo I found him silently hiding from me.

Quickly I opened the CD-ROM drive and set the driver firmly inside.

Soon computer and printer could communicate and begin printing with no time to waste.

So I waited in hope and anticipation for pages of printing to begin.

But instead of humming like a well oiled machine a new warning appeared upon my screen:

“Something is wrong with your printer”.  I circled my computer and muttered,

“Your message is no help, Computer, for you don’t tell me what really is the matter.”

Suddenly my computer spoke aloud. So startled was I that I almost jumped into the clouds.

In unfeeling tone, my computer spoke to me, “Look at the message on the screen.”

I began to tremble and fear for my computer now had a voice and ears.

Meekly I returned to my seat and studied the message on the screen.

A problem occurred with the ink. Oh what a bother, what a stink.

First they were in reverse order; the color was in the black slot while black was place of color.

Then they were not correctly placed as I had re-inserted them with such haste.

Finally, the ink was too old and too dry so needed new cartridges; a new supply.

Thankfully I had new ones; a few spare which were stored nearby with gentle care.

So, I  retrieved and inserted them in. Then I waited anxiously for the printing to begin.

It finally started, oh great joy I felt. Soon would end my long night of toil.

As each page passed through the feed, my monotone computer would dutifully repeat:

“Printing started, printing complete. Printing started, printing complete…”

Finally the last page passed through and there was no more printing left to do!

Sleepily, wearily, I climbed into bed with the voice of a talking computer stuck in my head.

In the blessed silence, I fell asleep being thankful that my task was finished and complete.

Tomorrow will arrive soon; another day to face a new hurdle, a new challenge, along the way.

The Great Lord of Love

014

May the Geat Lord of Love answer you

When you are troubled and feeling blue

May He clothe you in his cape of enduring love

Keeping you safe for his majestic home above.

May he send you help and assurance from up high

raining hope and mercy from the heavenly skies.

May he remember all you have done;

Your many kindnesses and your works of love.

May the Lord give you the wishes you’ve impart

so deeply inside your yearning heart.

And may His mighty hand gently lead you

on a path of abundance and saving truth.

So that your lifelong journey may lead

to a place of splendor and  joyful victory.

Where his blessings like the morning dew

shower your days with peace and happiness too.

Yes, oh yes, may the Great Lord of Love

Who sits enthroned in the heavens above

Grant you kindness, joy, and grace everyday

for you to treasure while traveling along life’s way.

Listening to the Night

003

Chirping choir of crickets sounding

As the thickening darkness surrounds me

A soft and gentle breeze blows

Brushing my arms, cheeks and nose

A lone owl hoots in the night;

Somewhere beneath the faint moon light.

Increasing wind swishes and sways in the trees;

A rhythmic lullaby like a lapping, churning sea.

Zigzag flashes of dancing bright lightening

Trail across the black distant horizon

Soon peals of crashing thunder is heard

Creeping ever nearer and nearer

Raindrops patter and strum

In a steady, staccato hum

Finally, the beating rain slowly recedes

As morning arrives softly caressing the scene.

Journeying Towards TOMORROW

041

Twilight descends darkening the horizon

Over is this day as night time settles in

Mindful in prayer of all God has done

Overwhelmed by his mercy, grace, and love

Reminiscing  of the days and years swiftly passing by

Renewing my heart in hope while dreams fill my mind

Onward I look towards a new dawning day

Walking in the sunshine with Jesus leading the way

What Jesus Sees in Me

046

Jesus sees in me all my pain and all my fears

Also all my insecurities hidden inside for years

Jesus sees in me all my failures in my daily journey

And each inhibiting unkindness inflicted on me

Jesus sees in me my brokenness and hopes unfulfilled

He hears my hidden sobs when the nights are still

Jesus also sees in me an inquisitive and curious person

Who stares at the wildflowers and studies the heavens

Who walks through the forest and across the prairieland

Also along the seashore sinking her feet in the sand

Who tries to find lasting beauty in everything she sees

And strives to be gentle and kind to everyone she meets

Jesus sees in me a person who journeys nearly every day

And reaches out to help others along the way

Some days are filled with unseen trials and others are fine

But Jesus knows the way through the tangled briars and the brine

Jesus also sees in me my dreams and inspirations.

My visions and perhaps too lofty aspirations

Of all that I still hope and desire to yet do

He sees my determined endurance to see each day through

Jesus sees in me quiet inner beauty

When I only see shyness and insecurity

Finally Jesus sees in me, the perfect person I will be

At home in heaven where I will live for glorious eternity

Jesus is the GOOD SHEPHERD

0221.jpg

Gentle lamb who took away my sins

Omnipotent; he is mighty and all powerful

Omnipresent; he is everywhere

Daily Provider of all my needs

Sees my triumphs and my tears

Hears my sobs and my quiet laughter

Ever with me and never forsaking me

Prince of peace, joy and love

Holds all things in place, the earth and the universe

Eyes ever watchful for wandering souls to save

Remains forever in my heart, my soul, and my life

Deliverer of hope, restoration, and eternal salvation
