Friday Verse Journal: Colossians 3:15

Thankful for….

Thankful for a glorious new day;

Thankful for the sun and the rain.

Thankful for the blue sky and the clouds;

Also, when the sun rises and gently goes down.

Thankful for the mountains, the meadows,

And the hills covered with emerald jeweled forests.

Also for the rippling lakes and rumbling oceans where

In the grain-sifting sand, my feet can sink and rest.

Thankful for the twittering birds of the air

and for butterflies fluttering here and there.

Thankful for close friends and family;

Thankful for the holidays when we meet

And the lifetime of cherished memories.

Thankful for their encouragement and their words

And the sweet moments locked forever in my heart.

Thankful for God, our Heavenly Father

Who reigns above forever and ever

And who so did love man

That he authored a lasting plan

To save us from our sins and from

Our many worldly and selfish whims.

Thankful for how God gives life purpose

For each new day with his mission; his focus.

Thankful for Jesus, His Son, and my Savior

And the hope he gives for an eternal future.

Thankful for the Lord who is always listening

And generously showers us with his blessings.

Thankful for the night when I can rest and sleep

Knowing Jesus is lovingly watching over me.

“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts to which indeed

you were called… And be thankful.”

Colossians 3:15 (Holy Bible ESV)

Happy Thanksgiving

Together once again with family and many friends.

House is aflutter with enticing aromas, clanging pans, and laughter.

Abundant home baked delights camouflage the table from sight.

Nature adds the wintry cold and a pristine layer of fresh snow.

Kittens, dogs, and children happily scamper through the hectic kitchen.

Sounds of boos and cheers from a televised game fill the atmosphere.

Grandparents, aunts, and uncles attend with young and smiling cousins.

Intrigued and famished family members finally around the table gather.

Vibrant and lively celebration of peace, joy, and prayerful thanksgiving.

Invited and included too are the dear friends loved by you.

Never neglecting or forgetting God’s numerous blessings.

Gathered and united in love while watched by the Lord from above.

QUIET MIND

183

Dear Lord Jesus; as I sit and pray

On this warm and sun-filled Sunday,

Please help me to be thankful and kind

But also to have a calm and QUIET MIND:

Qualms and worries of life cease;

Unhindered and lasting peace.

Inner voice of Jesus

Ever warm and soothing within us.

Taming of my hurtful thoughts and words;

Mindful of the commandments of the Lord.

Inner change of spirit and heart

No longer focused on worldly pain and harm.

Delivered from life of sin to live forever with him.

Amen.

Becky’s Song: Being Thankful in January

IMG_20151226_125714282_HDR

(Tune: Deck the Halls):

January is too cold fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

And I can tell I’m getting old fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Oh this weather and the temperatures, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

I cannot so easily endeavor, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Tis the season to hibernate, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Stay inside until Spring’s first day, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Oh but then I might miss some fun, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

And not see the bright rainbow sun, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Also no sledding or skiing, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Nor walking beneath snow glistened trees, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Nor making angels in the snow, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

All because outside I won’t go, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

So, I guess I’ll venture outside, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Now that the bright sun did arise, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

And continue on life’s journey, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

And try to see this new day’s blessings, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

It is still the time to be thankful, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Knowing that God is faithful, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

He has promised to never leave me, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

And lovingly he’s always providing, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

So now as I step into the cold, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Following a snow swept road, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

I will remember that Jesus is with me, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Sheltering me in his love and peace, fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la

Writing 101 Day 6: Trying to Write with Meaning

038

I am sitting with my mind as blank as can be

As I struggle on what to write meaningfully

which others will like to read and see.

I started my blog over a year ago now

Not knowing, not evening guessing how

It might grow through many posts and photos

And reach others who might gladly follow.

For I do not write near enough

As I find daily writing a bit too much

For me to endure and keep up.

However, I have learned with some consistency

I can write and post with some regularity

And so build up my blog continually.

I try to alter and vary my topics

Not knowing what others prefer to discuss

When through my blog they scroll down and up.

I explore the faith inside my heart,

About my life journey so far.

And new ideas that cause me to wonder.

I write some prose but mostly poems

As I sit and think here at home

Pondering my days and where I have roamed.

Perhaps it is time to write something else;

Maybe more fiction and less of myself?

I do enjoy sci-fi and history as well.

Or perhaps a guest biography

Or something in the news, I see.

Writing such new posts would be a challenge

Making my mind turn and bend

To still write for others to still comprehend.

I try to write concise and with clarity

Making sure each line makes sense to me

And hoping it conveys a message meaningfully.

One thing I hope my blog to be encouraging

To anyone who comes scrolling and reading

And that they find something worthy with meaning.

Therefore as you stop and look at my blog today,

Please know that I am thankful you wandered my way

Taking a quiet moment to read what I have to say.

Remaining GRATEFUL

745

Gladness enabling the heart to cheerfully sing.

Remembering God’s promises and many blessings.

Able to smile and wipe the tears away.

Thankful for the gift of another dawning day.

Eager yet quietly content to be

Faithfully believing in hope, heaven, and eternity.

Unhurried and not worried about trials of tomorrow.

Living each moment today and choosing to be joyful.

Becky’s Sonnet: Thankful for Another Beautiful Day

 076

I awoke to find a streaming sunlit sky

While shaking off the remnants of a dream.

The sun was already climbing way up high

In the atmosphere as blue as a shimmering sea.

After yet another storm and some pelting rain,

The grass was turning a deeper shade of green.

Such a wonder this summer has been

As often by now it is slowly browning.

But that just goes to illustrate that I really don’t know

Or understand changing patterns of the weather;

I might perceive seasons of rain and of snow

But cannot foretell the days of this summer.

But all I can do is be content and gladly pray,

“Thank you God, for yet another beautiful day.”

Night of the Talking Computer

003

It is usually quite the challenge for me to write a humorous piece but every so often I feel compelled to try. Recently, I had a long night working on my old laptop computer to complete a certain task assigned to me.  It was a very, long  and frustrating night but afterward, I felt I had a rather comical tale to tell. It is interesting how, God helps me see humor in a trying situation. I hope my silly story here helps you to have a small laugh and a smile today:

One night I stayed up late as I had a computer date.

A task I must complete so I typed and typed upon that screen.

I finally had all my typing done and time for the printing to begin.

Easy task I thought: just tether my computer to my printer

And then tell my computer to go while watching the paper smoothly flow.

But lo, I found I was very wrong for I pressed ‘print’ and no printing had begun.

Computer and printer would not communicate so I wailed with no time to waste.

I looked again upon the computer screen which reported an urgent message to me;

It seems I needed just the right driver to finish connecting to the printer.

The driver was a software program instructing my printer how to run.

That driver was needed I well know to tell my printer to print and go.

But where was that driver I had no clue; I searched and search until I was weary blue.

With no driver I would not finish on time, I wouldn’t be done by the determined deadline.

So dejected, I sat on the floor and wailed and cried a little more.

Oh where did that driver run off to? No time to go AWOL as we have important work to do.

My computer demanded his presence; he mustn’t go missing; he cannot be absent.

Finally it dawned on me just where that sneaky driver might be.

I hurried to my wearied feet and lo I found him silently hiding from me.

Quickly I opened the CD-ROM drive and set the driver firmly inside.

Soon computer and printer could communicate and begin printing with no time to waste.

So I waited in hope and anticipation for pages of printing to begin.

But instead of humming like a well oiled machine a new warning appeared upon my screen:

“Something is wrong with your printer”.  I circled my computer and muttered,

“Your message is no help, Computer, for you don’t tell me what really is the matter.”

Suddenly my computer spoke aloud. So startled was I that I almost jumped into the clouds.

In unfeeling tone, my computer spoke to me, “Look at the message on the screen.”

I began to tremble and fear for my computer now had a voice and ears.

Meekly I returned to my seat and studied the message on the screen.

A problem occurred with the ink. Oh what a bother, what a stink.

First they were in reverse order; the color was in the black slot while black was place of color.

Then they were not correctly placed as I had re-inserted them with such haste.

Finally, the ink was too old and too dry so needed new cartridges; a new supply.

Thankfully I had new ones; a few spare which were stored nearby with gentle care.

So, I  retrieved and inserted them in. Then I waited anxiously for the printing to begin.

It finally started, oh great joy I felt. Soon would end my long night of toil.

As each page passed through the feed, my monotone computer would dutifully repeat:

“Printing started, printing complete. Printing started, printing complete…”

Finally the last page passed through and there was no more printing left to do!

Sleepily, wearily, I climbed into bed with the voice of a talking computer stuck in my head.

In the blessed silence, I fell asleep being thankful that my task was finished and complete.

Tomorrow will arrive soon; another day to face a new hurdle, a new challenge, along the way.

Remembering God and Remaining Thankful

Although I am one day late on posting in my Friday verse journal. I still wanted to do so.  I took some extra time today to read God’s word,  pray, and to really think about how wonderful God is. And considering it is thanksgiving, my mind is still focused on the many things I have to be thankful for. And the only reason why I have so much to be thankful for is because God loves me and blesses me in many wonderful ways; his gifts are beyond generous and he is forever loving and gracious. To start with, God through his son Jesus has given me new life and I have the hope of living in heaven. I also have the freedom to worship, pray, and read God’s word whenever I want. I also come from a loving family and have many caring friends in my life.  And just when I need it most,  a friend or a family member comes along  to encourage me.  God abundantly provides for all my needs and I have a meaningful job in which I work and care for others so that they may live their lives as independently as they can. And God is always with me so that I am never alone.

Psalms 100:3-4 (Holy Bible New International Version):

“Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.”
