The Narrow Bridge
Crossing the narrow
Bridge, I wondered what new place
Lay over the ridge.
Perhaps a meadow
Of flowers or a stream filled
With rippling water.
Or perhaps a new
Mountain to climb and reach its’
Peak to touch the sky.
Sometimes a problem
needing a solution and
I must trust in him.
Sometimes it is pain
And grief when sad news reaches
Me; must still believe.
In life I’ve learned each
day is a journey to lean
on Jesus only.
Letting him lead the
Way through the trials and
Triumphs each new day.
He continues to be
My Savior, Lord and true friend
For eternity.
So as I cross a
New bridge I’ll lean on him to
Reach that distant ridge.
Writing 101 Day 3: Hunting for a Hidden Treasure
One day, I and a friend went on a
Wild journey; a new adventure.
We hoped to find a geocache
Container, a well hidden treasure.
The dirt road we traveled on was
So rugged and so very rough
That like sizzling popcorn, we
Were jostled and tossed.
For we had traversed far into the
Thick woods; a deep mountain forest
Where the tall, green needled
Pines sturdily towered over us.
And along the windy and increasingly
Treacherous dirt road,
My friend and I continued on as
We determinedly drove.
With each bump and turn, I tumbled
And jumbled in my truck seat;
Never, ever had I journeyed on
A rougher, obstacle-strewn street.
Gravel, rocks, boulders, and
Gouges in the road galore all
Took their toll making my body sore.
I bounced so high that on the
Ceiling, I hit my head.
Now, how I wish I
Could just go back to bed.
Thankfully, our tree branch and
Bush battered vehicle did not break
But oh wow, what a way to
Get a throbbing headache.
And as we still jarringly tumbled along,
I felt compelled to finally ask,
“Are we really doing all
This just for a geocache?”
The dirt road before us continued
To sharply narrow and bend
As we wondered if we’d
Really find the end.
But we did come to a halt
And to quietly rest
Upon a grassy hillside;
A gentle crest.
Then by foot we continued
To journey along the way
Hoping that our gps will
Not lead us astray.
So we then arrived deeper
In the mountain forest green
And found ourselves surrounded
By an unusual rock formation.
The boulders loomed above us
And with perfect swirls etched in deep
While encircled by the forest trees.
It seemed as if God had reached
Down to carve a perfect design
In this cluster of white rocks mostly
Hidden from man and time.
It was a hidden place of beauty
Which most people will never see
Unless they are as adventurous
As my dear friend and me.
And wouldn’t you know as we hunted
And searched among the rocks and boulders,
We completed our adventurous task: we
Found the geocache, the hidden container.
But honestly as I and my dear friend have
Embarked on many of these geocaching adventures,
We’ve learned to cherish the forest, the wildlife, and
All of nature for that is the true hidden treasure.
And Away We Flew
Up, up, and away we flew into the sky;
What a thrilling sensation to soar so high.
Over the rocky and rugged landscape we flew
As the morning sun displayed its’ brilliant hue.
Grayish white clouds hung suspended in the air
At times refracting the sun’s lemon-tinted glare.
Such a majestic and lofty perspective of the scene
As we glided over with the earth far below our feet.
The sky around us was a vivid and vast blue sea
And stretched over us like a high vaulted canopy.
The highway below stretched out like a long and narrow river
And we flew over the lakes fabled the Seven Brothers.
Curving around Cloud’s Peak and Bomber Mountain,
We also saw Black Tooth, rugged hillsides, and olive green woodlands.
Gliding like a lone eagle in the flowing and swirling wind,
We floated on the breezy waves in the deep ocean of heaven.
But at last and all too soon it was time to return
To our home below, the mountainous and forest covered earth.
So gently we descended, coming softly down
And I knew the moment our small plane touched the solid ground.
And now today, I remember and hold in my heart
That cherished journey in the sky; a memory which will not soon depart.
Waiting for the Stars
The late afternoon sky resembled a
Tranquil and deep blue sea.
A hint of powder white clouds
Are floating by so effortlessly.
A crescent moon has settled on high
Like a heavenly nightlight in the sky.
The streaming sunlight continues to diminish
Being chased away by the encroaching darkness.
The air is cool as evening approaches
Reminding me to don on warmer clothes.
A quietness reigns in the brisk mountain air
With the soft chirping of a cricket choir.
I sat on the porch waiting in anticipation
To see all the stars that nighttime may bring.
Such a long time since I have seen
The stars at night so brightly shining;
Glowing and glittering in awesome wonder
While stretching above across the universe.
I shall sit and wait here in this still quietness
To see those twinkling gems before I rest.
I Tried to Climb a Mountain
Today I tried to climb a mountain
but didn’t reach the top.
Today I tried to be a friend
but was only a hindrance
Today, i tried to be an outward person
but had gone inward again.
Today I many have failed
but I know the Lord will provide
for me another day to try again.
And tomorrow is another day;
I’ll pray to the Lord and try again..
