MEMORIES OF DAD

Merry blue eyes and laughter

Ever loving and caring father

Moments of quiet conversations

Of his life experiences and wisdom.

Retelling lighthearted stories of his youth

In fond remembrance of what he used to do.

Eager with friends and family to celebrate

Sharing his smile and love during the holidays.

Overworked in the fields and at the mine:

Filled with family duty to provide.

Days camping near a Hatfiield lake;

And fishing at a favorite place.

Determined to live and remain strong;

No longer on earth but alive in heaven.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD

NOW EXPLORING THE REALMS

OF HEAVEN!

Freku: CHRISTMASTIME

Christians near and far

Herald the birth of our Lord;

Remembering the singing angels,

Immanuel laying in a manger;

Starry, most holy night.

Traveling wise men also came

Many miles beneath the guiding star

Across the desert mountains and the plains;

Seeing at last this most holy sight.

Tending shepherds watched

In reverent wonder and awe,

Mary and Joseph quieting kneeling;

Eternal king and savior peacefully sleeping

 while bringing us his goodness and light.

Remembering the

Savior’s birth who brought us hope

and peace here on earth.

Merry Christmas to all!!

Becky’s Haiku: Good Night Blessing

sunset-on-the-prairie

Setting sun like a

Glowing flame kissed the earth with

A good night blessing.

I have attempted yet another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “flame” and “kiss”. I am enjoying the challenge of putting different and even opposite words in such a short poem.  If you like word challenges and haiku’s, then I invite you to also accept Ronovan’s latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/category/haiku-prompt-challenge/

Softly Spring Descends

IMG_20160423_142351962

As warmer weather surrounds

And caresses the rotating earth

The scent of spring permeates

The air in the season of renewal and rebirth.

The forests, the meadows, the rolling

Hills and the wildflower fields

Are elegantly robed in a canopy of

Emerald green; earth’s lush cover shield.

Tweeting and chirping, twittering

And trilling; oh how the songbirds love to sing.

Whether at the break of early dawn or in the orange

Twilight, nature’s choir joyously rings.

A walk through the forest in the midst

Of a sun drenched and warm afternoon

Through the lakeside cluster of trees where

A distinct honk is heard of a lone wandering goose.

And the chirps of crickets and frogs echo in the trees

 Which are softly clothed in new budding leaves.

Following a hidden and narrow rutted path

Up and down the forested hillside

Gazing far into the horizon where

The tips of treetops meet the sapphire blue sky.

The welcomed warmth of the glowing sun

Wraps itself around like a cloak of security

As if to hold me sure and steadfast

While strolling by the quietly lapping sea.

I strain to see distant images of

 Ducks and other visiting waterfowl

Who silently rest upon the lake

And along the flowing ripples remain afloat.

Meanwhile the southerly and gentle breeze

Rustles the swaying branches speaking to me.

The blowing wind gusts louder and

Stronger reaching a frenzied climax

Before quieting to whisper

After its high-pitched performance.

I couldn’t help but wonder, “What message is the

Shifting wind trying to convey to me?”

As I strolled contentedly over the hills and

Through the softly swishing trees.

I imagined the wind to reply, “It is spring;

A season of new blessings and a fresh new start.

See and remember this quiet journey through

 The forest and keep it in your heart.”

Then all too soon this day’s trek through

The countryside abruptly ends

But not before remembering that a new day

 And another journey will soon begin.

Becky’s Haiku: Life and Give

002

On earth, Jesus had

Lived to die for sins and life

Eternal to give.

I have just attempted yet another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “life” and “give”. I am enjoying the challenge of trying to use different and even opposite words in such a short poem. These prompts from Ronovan are an enjoyable challenge.  If you like poetry challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/11/23/

Becky’s Haiku: Remembering God, My Strength and Song

051

As I walk and stroll

Along, I think of God who

Is my strength and song.

he has created

 by his own power all things:

earth, the moon, and stars.

he has revealed in

his book, chapter and verse; he

made the universe.

Nothing good was made

Without him; through his word filled

With power from within.

He gives breathing life

To all men and eternal

Life through his own Son.

He is like a love

 Song singing deep inside of

Me and whispering.

He sings in my heart

Ever quietly and through

The gentle, flowing breeze.

I also hear him

By the lake and sea as the

Waves lap peacefully.

And in the forest

When the birds sing, I can’t help

But remember him.

Always reminding

Me of his love and peace, so

Content, I can be.

So today I will

Stroll along and remember

God, my strength and song.

And Away We Flew

049 050 059 054

Up, up, and away we flew into the sky;

What a thrilling sensation to soar so high.

Over the rocky and rugged landscape we flew

As the morning sun displayed its’ brilliant hue.

Grayish white clouds hung suspended in the air

At times refracting the sun’s lemon-tinted glare.

Such a majestic and lofty perspective of the scene

As we glided over with the earth far below our feet.

The sky around us was a vivid and vast blue sea

And stretched over us like a high vaulted canopy.

The highway below stretched out like a long and narrow river

And we flew over the lakes fabled the Seven Brothers.

Curving around Cloud’s Peak and Bomber Mountain,

We also saw Black Tooth, rugged hillsides, and olive green woodlands.

Gliding like a lone eagle in the flowing and swirling wind,

We floated on the breezy waves in the deep ocean of heaven.

But at last and all too soon it was time to return

To our home below, the mountainous and forest covered earth.

So gently we descended, coming softly down

And I knew the moment our small plane touched the solid ground.

And now today, I remember and hold in my heart

That cherished journey in the sky; a memory which will not soon depart.

Haiku: Our Home Earth

043

Earth; the blue sphere beacon

Floating in the vast field of space yet

Keeping its destined place

I got this haiku poem idea by participating in a haiku challenge. For those who like such challenges, here is a link this challenge in which, you were to include the words “beacon” and “field” in a haiku:

Poetry 201 Assignment 9: Landscape, Found Poetry, and Enumeration

009

Okay, I completed assignment 9 in which I needed to write a Found poem about ‘landscape’ and include some enumeration (a list). Found poetry I learned is when you gather a collage of words like cutting them from a newspaper and then use those words in a poem.Other poets were much more creative than I by arranging theirs’ in a crossword pattern to illustrate the concepts of their poems. This took me a long time and I probably overdid it. The picture above illustrates the collage of words I used for this poem.

Forever Changing Landscape

From one century to another and one lifetime to the next generation,

The earth’s multi-faceted landscape is forever changing.

From the warm weather of spring to the humid days of summer,

And then transforming from the colorful fall season to snow white winter.

The land of earth is continuously transforming as moving time is a steady constant

While the passing seasons and the world itself are inconsistent variants.

 An enchanted traveler might see the view shift gradually or with sudden surprise

As if surrounded by the deep darkness of night when bursts a glorious sunrise.

For traveling through America is like mentally picking up the vast pieces

 Of a larger than life picture perfect puzzle as each state represents just a speck.

Whether touring by bus, car, cycle, or by riding on the river;

Or perhaps take to the trails by looping around the lakes

In an ambitious and challenging hiking adventure,

An unexpected surprise may meet your wondrous eyes

While you journey from the dawn of morning until the dusk of night.

Ranging from the hot, sandy deserts of Arizona to the north shore of wintry Alaska

And from the mountains of Wyoming to the fields and farms of Kansas and Nebraska;

The land, rivers, forests, and mountains do not remain stale and stagnant.

Instead they all steadily flow by your passenger window; moving, colorful and dynamic.

Even when traveling from one brightly lit up city to yet another,

You may expect to view similar, towering skyscrapers

And perhaps be in reverent awe of their architecture.

However, experiencing the sights and sounds of New York City’s Broadway

Does not compare to walking along the shoreline of San Francisco Bay.

And if one should venture around the world while soul-searching,

The sights of historic Greece would greatly defer from the Eastern Caribbean.

In such travels what peace of mind, new hope, and good delight

May inspire one to adopt new and fresh perspectives on life.

When one chooses to embark on an unknown and great journey;

May it be an exceptional journey to never forget but linger and echo in memory.
