Writing 201 Day 9: Cold, Concrete Poem, and Epistrophe/Anaphora

Wintery Shape in the Snowscape

OH NO

THE SNOW!

YOU KNOW IT’S

COLD WHEN

YOU LOOK OUTSIDE

AND SEE THE SNOW. AS SNOW

 FLURRIES FLUTTER AROUND AND

DRIFT ON DOWN ALL TOO SOON COVER

THE GROUND. SNOW, SNOW, AND

MORE SNOW! STARTING IN NO

VEMBER OR DECEMBER,

THAT IS THE WAY THE WEATHER

WILL GO; SNOW, SNOW, AND MORE

SNOW. AND THAT SCENE OF EVER WHITE

SNOWFALL IS SIMPLY NOT ALL; FOR ALONG

WITH THAT SNOW WILL COME WINTER STORMS

AND BITTER, FRIGID COLD. THOSE DAYS, WEEKS,

AND MONTHS OF SNOW AND WINTRY COLD

CAN SEEM TO GO ON AND ON. EVEN SO,

ON CLEAR DAYS WHEN UPWARD

YOU GAZE YOU MAY SEE THE

 SKY IS A BRILLIANT HUE

OF VIVID BLUE BENEATH THE GLOWING EYE OF THE SUN.BUT THEN STILL ALL THAT PURE WHITE SNOW AND MORE SNOW UNTIL WHITE IS THE ONLY COLOR YOU KNOW. EVEN STILL WINTER DOES HAVE ITS’ THRILLS WITH SNOWSHOEING, SKIING, AND SLEDDING DOWN HILL.AND ON A BLUSTERY COLD AND SNOWY DAY YOU JUST MAY CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY ALONG THE WAY WHEN YOU SPY IN THE SKY AN UNUSUAL VIEW OF AN ARCHING SUNDOG OF A VIBRANT ORANGE HUE. IT IS A WINTER RAINBOW; A SIGN OF HOPE JUST FOR YOU.THEN BACK TO THE SNOW, SNOW, AND MORE SNOW! OH THAT SNOW NEVER SEEMS TO QUITE END UNTIL FINALLY COMES WELCOMED SIGNS OF SPRING.

Becky’s Haiku: Start and Hot

465

Cooler days start as

Autumn nears; hot summer days

Fade and disappear.

I have just attempted yet another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “start” and “hot”. I am enjoying the puzzle of trying to use such seemingly different and even opposite words in such a short poem. These prompts from Ronovan can really be a challenge.  If you like poetry challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/09/14/

Writing 101 Day 5: Where is My Home?

053

I am a quiet wanderer walking alone;

Each new day I seem to follow the same lonely road.

I arise from bed and journey through the day

Working and resting along the way.

Some days are predictable and I know just what to do

While others present obstacles and I barely pass through.

Some mornings are full of warm temps and a bright shining sun

While others are filled with storms and never just one.

For through life I meet tempests of many kinds;

Some are outside while others linger and rage in my mind.

One of the battles that wrestles inside of me

Is finding my home; where in life I am meant to be.

For I have moved and wandered from one place to another

And I stop for a while hoping I’ve found what I was searching for.

But in every place I stay, it is the same wherever I go;

I live this quiet life whether it be sunshine, rain, or snow.

For I fall into the same rut and habits of life

Hoping that somehow things will be different this time.

And there are wondrous moments where wider I open my eyes

To see that my loving God has in store a delightful surprise.

Such as following a new path beneath the warm sun

Or a sudden encounter with an old friend.

Climbing to the top of a mountain peak

And viewing a new, breathtaking scene.

Also hearing a new message from my Lord

While pausing to read and reflect on his word.

Although there are some hardships but that’s nothing new

For everyone who loves the Lord faces hard trials too.

And that is the time to believe and trust in God some more

Knowing that our faith in him will become even stronger.

And now through quiet prayer and thinking, God has revealed to me

My true home is whenever I am with him and can quietly be.

Friday Verse Journal Jeremiah 29:11-13

001

God keeps proving over and over again that he loves me and wants me to keep loving and trusting in him. Today he provided for me when faced with several unexpected situations at work. I needed to change my schedule around making a number of adjustments. My work day started and ended completely different than I had anticipated. I had my mind firmly set on one path but the Lord directed me along a very different route. Instead of being like a straight and direct highway, my days are more like a winding, bending river and I don’t were i will finish the journey before my work is done. It was a long and tiring day but also one full of opportunities in showing love and kindness. I was out all day meeting and helping people when I expected to be in the office working on  admin tasks. When God answers my prayers and displays his love to me, I know he wants me to turn around and show that same compassion to others. In the job I have, I am able to do some of that every day. God is so good!

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (New International Version):

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
