Nature’s SERENADE

Singing birds perched in the trees;

Eager, cheerful twittering upon the flowing breeze.

Rainbow brightens a once stormy sky;

Evergreens and slender pines towering high.

Nights filled with twinkling stars and a hovering moon

Against the black canvas harboring Mars, Jupiter, and Neptune.

Dawning sun beckons a new, glorious day

Edged with peace and gladness along the pathway.

Becky’s Pantoum: On a Frigid Winter Day

021903_0850[00]

On a frigid winter day

I peered into the brilliant blue sky;

Twas a rainbow in vivid lemon array

Stretching far and reaching high.

I peered into the brilliant blue sky

Feeling a sharp blustery breeze

Stretching far and reaching high

Over the pines and leafless trees.

Feeling a sharp blustery breeze

In the midst of this frozen land.

Over the pines and leafless trees

Ice crystals reflecting and refracting the sun.

In the midst of this frozen land

Twas a rainbow in vivid lemon array:

Ice crystals reflecting and refracting the sun

On a frigid winter day.

The Gray Roof Above

IMG_20160729_201304493

Clouds hovering above hung low

Forming a billowy gray roof.

Yet the vision of a double rainbow

Gloriously did loom.

Tis a reminder today

Though the sun light is dim

Rain showers along the way

Do cleanse and brighten

This fair world from sea to sea

Though at times tainted with drought

The gardens and the swaying trees.

Glistening raindrops beneath the clouds

Finely scattered along life’s path way

Are droplets of heaven’s blessings

To gently soothe this darkened day

And encourage our hearts with renewed hope to sing.

 The arching twin rainbows stretching high above

This earth; its land and wave swept seas

To quietly mirror God’s never ending love

For you and for me.

Though a bit late, I am participating in a photo challenge this week with the word “roof”.  This adds a bit more challenge to writing poetry and it too me a while to respond! To find out more about word photo challenges visit this site: https://thearanartisan.com/photo-challenge-words-2016/

Cloudy Cloudy

DCP_0911

Cloudy cloudy;

The sky is gray and pouty

Threatening to weep and rain.

Hidden from sight

Is the sun’s orbed light

As raindrops fall again.

Thunder, thunder

And flashes of lightning wonder

Peal across the darkened sky

Streaking crooked paths

Against the cloudy mass

In electric zigzag light.

Rainbow, Rainbow

Arching over the dewy green meadow

After a long and stormy night.

Inspiring chirps of gladness and hope

across the forested slopes

Beneath the blue crystal sky.

Kathy’s Haiku: Black and White

Trailing Rainbow
Life is rarely just
Bland old Black and white also
There are rainbows bright

My cousin who contributes to my blog just attempted a haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “black” and “white”. These prompts from Ronovan can really be a fun challenge to the mind.  If you like writing poetry challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/11/30/ronovanwrites-weekly-haiku-poetry-prompt-challenge-73-blackwhite/

Writing 201 Day 9: Cold, Concrete Poem, and Epistrophe/Anaphora

Wintery Shape in the Snowscape

OH NO

THE SNOW!

YOU KNOW IT’S

COLD WHEN

YOU LOOK OUTSIDE

AND SEE THE SNOW. AS SNOW

 FLURRIES FLUTTER AROUND AND

DRIFT ON DOWN ALL TOO SOON COVER

THE GROUND. SNOW, SNOW, AND

MORE SNOW! STARTING IN NO

VEMBER OR DECEMBER,

THAT IS THE WAY THE WEATHER

WILL GO; SNOW, SNOW, AND MORE

SNOW. AND THAT SCENE OF EVER WHITE

SNOWFALL IS SIMPLY NOT ALL; FOR ALONG

WITH THAT SNOW WILL COME WINTER STORMS

 AND BITTER, FRIGID COLD. THOSE DAYS, WEEKS,

 AND MONTHS OF SNOW AND WINTRY COLD

CAN SEEM TO GO ON AND ON. EVEN SO,

ON CLEAR DAYS WHEN UPWARD

YOU GAZE YOU MAY SEE THE

 SKY IS A BRILLIANT HUE

OF VIVID BLUE BENEATH THE GLOWING EYE OF THE SUN.BUT THEN STILL ALL THAT PURE WHITE SNOW AND MORE SNOW UNTIL WHITE IS THE ONLY COLOR YOU KNOW. EVEN STILL WINTER DOES HAVE ITS’ THRILLS WITH SNOWSHOEING, SKIING, AND SLEDDING DOWN HILL.AND ON A BLUSTERY COLD AND SNOWY DAY YOU JUST MAY CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY ALONG THE WAY WHEN YOU SPY IN THE SKY AN UNUSUAL VIEW OF AN ARCHING SUNDOG OF A VIBRANT ORANGE HUE. IT IS A WINTER RAINBOW; A SIGN OF HOPE JUST FOR YOU.THEN BACK TO THE SNOW, SNOW, AND MORE SNOW! OH THAT SNOW NEVER SEEMS TO QUITE END UNTIL FINALLY COMES WELCOMED SIGNS OF SPRING.

Solo Journey

011

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Hebrews 13:5 Holy Bible NIV

Each new day I face the unknown

Seemingly all by myself; all alone.

I follow a path I can’t fully see

Where danger sometimes eludes me.

It is an ongoing trek into the future;

A solo journey I continue to endeavor.

Since my youth, I have been walking this path

And only the Lord knows how long it will last.

I try to travel in sweet content and joyfulness

Trying to remember God is near, and through him I’m blessed.

But some days are harder to strain and see

The love and goodness that the Lord is showing me.

I sometimes miss the sun and rainbows in life

As I face obstacles and endure strife.

Because I’m too worried and too wrapped in deep doubt

As if I’ve been swallowed by a thick, foreboding thundercloud.

I stumble in the pit of that deep dark night

Yearning to see a comforting and glowing light.

Something to rekindle my lost and trampled hope;

Someone to help me rise with courage and cope.

I stumble around as my mind and heart cannot see

And then fall down ever so continuously.

Finally, I pause to rest and lo, I find a friend

For Jesus had come seeking me yet again.

For in this world of worry I can find peace

When I stop to remember Jesus is with me.

For he promises to never ever leave

And that no one can snatch me from thee.

Out of the darkness I emerge again

Seeing the rainbows and the sun.

So as I continue this solo journey on my own,

I’m again reminded that I am not really all alone.

Writing 101 Day 10: Will You have Coffee with Me?

038

Hello dear friend, how splendid to see;

Will you have some coffee with me?

Perhaps we can stop in this quaint café

And chat this morning away.

It is such a beautiful morning

With a brilliant sunrise streaking the horizon.

Oh, you are having a cappuccino today?

I think I’ll try a mocha latte.

Yes, I do enjoy the warm coffee

When the autumn air is brisk and chilly.

So what is new with you?

Busy at work? Oh, yes, me too.

While at my job, each day is so different

And quite often it does not go as planned.

Some days are being difficult, you say?

I hope things get better; I will pray.

I must admit that I struggle too

And sometimes I don’t know what to do.

Why do we have to struggle so much?

All seems well then suddenly I’m overwhelmed and rushed.

You sometimes feel that way also?

How do you deal with that? How do you cope?

I worry too much and fret the day away.

Yes, you’re right; I need to pause and pray.

Yes, you’re right again; I need to slow down.

I need to stop, listen to God, and again be calm.

Why yesterday is a perfect example;

I complained about the rain and missed the rainbow.

I saw the arching, colorful bow later on-line;

A photo taken by a friend of mine.

Oh yes, it was too bad that I let myself worry

And then miss a blessing, God had for me.

Today will be different; I promise to try.

I’ll trust God more and enjoy the sunshine.

Thank you dear friend for having coffee with me;

Because of you, I’ve had a wonderful morning.

Perhaps there will be a Rainbow

004

I awoke early one dark morn

And knew there may be a storm.

Oh, how I deeply yearned and sighed

As I gazed up into the dreary sky.

I so wished the clouds to go away

And this would be a much brighter day.

But I knew I needed to be content

With what God had planned; what he had meant.

For I realized the Lord knows what’s best for me

Although I don’t always understand or see.

But I hoped as I tarried along my way

Just perhaps there will be a rainbow today.

Oh that rainbow, that colorful sign in the sky

Which meant God is watching from up high;

A reminder that he faithfully keeps his promises

Through his Holy Word and through his son, Jesus.

That curving multi-colored arch is a testament

That God keeps his promises, his laws, and commandments.

Therefore, no new law or clever scheme of man

Can ever thwart God’s wisdom or alter his plan.

For from the time of Genesis and up to now,

He has maintained what is holy, right, and moral.

And also through his deep love and Jesus’ sacrifice,

We can draw near to him to receive forgiveness and lasting grace.

In our own way we each have strayed and sinned;

We’ve hurt others and deeply grieved him.

But God’s deep love endures as he never gives up;

he patiently waits for our return through his son, Jesus.

Oh to see that sight as I walk through life up a slippery slope;

That sign from God conveying his love and enduring hope.

So just maybe as I slowly tread and journey along the way,

Perhaps there will be a rainbow in the sky today.

God’s Promises in a RAINBOW

Trailing Rainbow

When a rainbow streaks the sky after the thunder and the rain

Is a time to remember that God keeps all his promises to the end:

Remember Jesus as the Son of God and Lord

And he will also remember us according to his word.

Always faithful: God’s love and faithfulness never end;

For once he’s with us, he remains as our Father and friend.

Individual and personal as he calls us each by name

While through the ages, his deep love remains the same.

Never forgetting: as we live a new life with Jesus,

God promises to never leave nor forsake us.

Blessings and kindnesses he will gladly show

By answering our prayers and giving us lasting hope.

Omnipresent: God’s unseen spirit is everywhere;

In our hearts and in the breeze that filters the air.

Whispering in the soft wind at night, he reminds us of his word

As we lay quietly in that stillness remembering he is Lord.
