Solo Journey

011

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

Hebrews 13:5 Holy Bible NIV

Each new day I face the unknown

Seemingly all by myself; all alone.

I follow a path I can’t fully see

Where danger sometimes eludes me.

It is an ongoing trek into the future;

A solo journey I continue to endeavor.

Since my youth, I have been walking this path

And only the Lord knows how long it will last.

I try to travel in sweet content and joyfulness

Trying to remember God is near, and through him I’m blessed.

But some days are harder to strain and see

The love and goodness that the Lord is showing me.

I sometimes miss the sun and rainbows in life

As I face obstacles and endure strife.

Because I’m too worried and too wrapped in deep doubt

As if I’ve been swallowed by a thick, foreboding thundercloud.

I stumble in the pit of that deep dark night

Yearning to see a comforting and glowing light.

Something to rekindle my lost and trampled hope;

Someone to help me rise with courage and cope.

I stumble around as my mind and heart cannot see

And then fall down ever so continuously.

Finally, I pause to rest and lo, I find a friend

For Jesus had come seeking me yet again.

For in this world of worry I can find peace

When I stop to remember Jesus is with me.

For he promises to never ever leave

And that no one can snatch me from thee.

Out of the darkness I emerge again

Seeing the rainbows and the sun.

So as I continue this solo journey on my own,

I’m again reminded that I am not really all alone.

Once again, I am one day late on this; it seems I need an extra day to pray and dwell on this post. Each new day in life can be full of unanswered questions and new challenges. Just when I think I have found solutions, a new dilemma arises. And often, it is an unwelcomed problem. Among other lessons, I know God is nearby and is teaching to continue in faith when the path ahead is cloudy and obscure. He is teaching me to continue to trust in him when I am having a hard time trusting in others. He is teaching me to continue in prayer even when I am at a loss for words.  He is teaching me to remain at peace when I see a river of trouble ahead. And when I am most impatient for answers and solutions to all of my dilemmas, he is teaching me to be patient and wait; with a peaceful, sincere, and believing heart, I am to patiently and quietly wait on the Lord.

Psalms 27:14 (Holy Bible New International Version):

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait on the Lord.”

For a February day in Minnesota, today was warm, sunny, and beautiful. I made it a special point to go out and enjoy it. I walked to the nearby recreation center and then backtracked to the post office to pick up my mail. Winter is not over yet but amid the cold, bitter days God will bless us with some warm days that remind me of spring. I even glance around hoping to see green grass growing and lo, I did see a hint of green embedded in the grayish brown grass blades. And when God sends such a sign of hope through the bright warm sun and that tiny hint of new grass, I try to make it  a point to relish those special moments as a way of showing thankfulness to God for all he has done.  Every day and in many special ways, God shows me his love and his gentleness. Today I am rejoicing in that and in the hope that God’s gentle love also reaches others through me in what I say and do.  It is my hope today that you also are touched by God’s gentle love and can rejoice in that.

Philippians 4:4-5 (Holy Bible New International Version):

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I’ll say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.”

Although this is one day late, I am determined to write something in my Friday Verse Journal segment. The other day I happened to stop for a quick lunch before returning to work. I sat in my car in the parking debating if I should splurge on a small lunch. I had just decided that I shouldn’t do so when I looked around the parking lot and saw a familiar car. A friend I hadn’t seen in a long time was there. Immediately, I changed my mind and ventured into the restaurant. I ordered a meal and soon found my friend at a small table. We had a wonderful time of chatting, sharing, and encouraging each other. Her friendship and kindness are very special gifts to me and I treasure them very much. I think such special friends are just a few of God’s wonderful gifts which he showers on me. The loving Lord has a way of suddenly surprising me during the day when I sometimes least expect it and that was the case when I unexpectedly met up with my friend. God knew I needed someone to talk to and provided. He truly does supply all my needs and blesses me with wonderful gifts and blessings. I hope that has showered you with a special gift today, something that you will treasure in your heart.

Matthew 6:21 (Holy Bible New International Version):

“For where your treasure is, there  your heart will be also.”

God keeps proving over and over again that he loves me and wants me to keep loving and trusting in him. Today he provided for me when faced with several unexpected situations at work. I needed to change my schedule around making a number of adjustments. My work day started and ended completely different than I had anticipated. I had my mind firmly set on one path but the Lord directed me along a very different route. Instead of being like a straight and direct highway, my days are more like a winding, bending river and I don’t were i will finish the journey before my work is done. It was a long and tiring day but also one full of opportunities in showing love and kindness. I was out all day meeting and helping people when I expected to be in the office working on  admin tasks. When God answers my prayers and displays his love to me, I know he wants me to turn around and show that same compassion to others. In the job I have, I am able to do some of that every day. God is so good!

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (New International Version):

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Through prayer, contemplation, and in my daily faith walk with Jesus, I am continually being revived and renewed by the Spirit. That is when I do take the time to just be with Jesus; to just be still and remember he is God. And then just let his cherished words seep inside of my heart and spirit. I have also been recently reminded through my personal Bible study to not let others judge me. Some judge and draw inaccurate conclusions without taking time to understand and I have see this a lot recently. It is very hurtful but there is no point to try to explain to some because I can tell they are just set on what they believe.

For my part, I am trying my best to do what I believe God is teaching me through my personal study, sermons, daily endurance, and the wisdom of other believers. Along with that I am being challenged to continue on a Thankfulness Journey which I have embarked on even when trouble brews and precious plans go awry.  On the other hand, God has shown me love and gentleness through the love, kindness, and generosity of others. Due to a recent blizzard for instance, a loving family took me into their home providing warm shelter and warm meals when I could not safely travel home. Therefore, God gives me plenty of reasons to remain thankful.

Again, this is two days late, but I am being determined not let another obstacle get in my way of posting a new verse for this week. As I have said, I am making a determined effort to continue with the attitude of thankfulness in my mind, soul and heart.

Colossians 2:6-7 (Holy Bible English Standard Version):

“Therefore, as your received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”

Hooray!! It is a new year; a time of new beginnings and making new resolutions. Through various trials and unforeseen difficulties, I often have to stop and remember that God is beside me all the way every day and he is continually blessing me. I just don’t always fully realize this but I know he is. He never gives up on his people and I in turn I am resolved to never give up on him. I don’t always understand his ways and his wisdom is much greater than mine. I need to just keep trusting and believing in him through Jesus, his one and only son. I also need to continually stay and abide in his true word and let him show me the way to go in what to do, and what to say. That doesn’t mean that I can be perfect, on my own I will never accomplish that and I know that my inner being is full of many faults as I do not always perceive nor understand what God is gently teaching me. But it is God’s good guidance and love through the Lord Jesus, that helps me journey in the right direction and that is towards heaven, God’s everlasting kingdom.

Psalms 119:9-11 (Holy Bible New International Version):

“How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; don’t let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

PRAYER: Spending Time with God

Personal conversation and

Reflection with God, my Heavenly Father

Admission of sin and plea for forgiveness and mercy

Yesterday’s generous blessings remembered

Everyday needs requested and met through God’s perfect grace

Remembering always God’s greatness and never ending love through Jesus

Matthew 6:6 (Holy Bible New International Version):

“But when you prayer, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.  Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

Becky’s Song: Come, God Told Me

039

(Tune: Little Drummer Boy):

“Come,” God told me, “come see my Son

Come to Jesus the King, come see my Son”

“But I am unworthy,” I cried to him,

“Not wanted and unloved so

Why should I come?

Why should I come?

Why should I come?”

“Because I know you child and so does my Son;

And you are loved by him.”

“Oh, King Jesus, God told me to come

But I am not worthy to stand before your throne

I’m utterly sinful and so unwanted,

Wretched, unlovable so

Why should I come?

Why should I come?

Why should I come?”

“Because I have forgiven you, oh don’t you see?

I will make you be holy through me.”

Then God nodded as he was pleased

To see me come fully believing in Thee.

Jesus came then to live in my heart.

Jesus promised to stay and

Never ever depart

Never ever depart

Never ever depart.

For God so love this world, oh can you see?

He sent Jesus to save you and me.

John 3:16-17 (Holy Bible New International Version):

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through him.”

Remembering God and Remaining Thankful

Although I am one day late on posting in my Friday verse journal. I still wanted to do so.  I took some extra time today to read God’s word,  pray, and to really think about how wonderful God is. And considering it is thanksgiving, my mind is still focused on the many things I have to be thankful for. And the only reason why I have so much to be thankful for is because God loves me and blesses me in many wonderful ways; his gifts are beyond generous and he is forever loving and gracious. To start with, God through his son Jesus has given me new life and I have the hope of living in heaven. I also have the freedom to worship, pray, and read God’s word whenever I want. I also come from a loving family and have many caring friends in my life.  And just when I need it most,  a friend or a family member comes along  to encourage me.  God abundantly provides for all my needs and I have a meaningful job in which I work and care for others so that they may live their lives as independently as they can. And God is always with me so that I am never alone.

Psalms 100:3-4 (Holy Bible New International Version):

“Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.”
