Coming of Spring

047

Cool wind blows again as winter nears its end

though not soon enough for me.

A welcomed fragrance remains of a soft  and gentle rain

permeating the chilly breeze.

So filled now with elation; hooray for spring’s coronation

descending so tenderly.

Returning robins in the trees sing joyful melodies

kindly enchanting me.

Grass is still a dreary brown all around this tiny town

looking ever so bleak

But never you mind for given some time

it will transform to  glorious green.

Towering trees here and there standing naked and bare

will soon sprout tiny new  leaves.

So for now don’t dismay; Spring  indeed is on the way.

Just you wait and see.

I Hear the Birds

DCP_1008

I hear the birds singing; an unseen choir a midst the leafy branches of the swaying trees.

Their small voices are many and unique; their whistles, their chirps and their melodies

ride the quietly flowing breeze.

Their joyous songs bring sweet thoughts to my mind and a deep sense of gentle peace to

my uplifted heart. How i love to hear the birds above and may they always be near, always

present, never to depart.

Morning Light

As the new bright day is dawning and the first rays of sunlight filter in,

the Lord lovingly and gently awakens me.

My eyes slowly open and as watchful consciousness alerts my thoughts and soul,

I turn to look out the glass pane to to quietly and even wistfully see.

The leafy trees are a pale shade of green and the sky a gentle hue of blue.

Everything glistens beneath the sun’s transparent rays and the morning dew.

Now my soul is filled with earnest contentment of the simple and gentle beginning

so I arise with my thoughts on the Lord and with quiet anticipation.

In a gentle voiced prayer, i answer, “Thank you, Lord for showering me

with your sunshine and your sweet love today and

thank you Lord for your faithfulness in staying with me through this

gentle, sunlit day.

Hope

Image

Hope is my special faith that I keep deep down inside

If I feel overwhelmed with hurt then to Hope I must confide.

Then I am encouraged and I feel my strength once again.

I stop to remember that Hope is my everlasting friend.

I must hold onto my friend, I must never let him out of my sight.

For if I lose him in the darkness of grief then I must find Hope

to again see the light.

I Tried to Climb a Mountain

020

Today I tried to climb a mountain

but didn’t reach the top.

Today I tried to be a friend

but was only a hindrance

Today, i tried to be an outward person

but had gone inward again.

Today I many have failed

but I know the Lord will provide

for me another day to try again.

And tomorrow is another day;

I’ll pray to the Lord and try again..

Spring Time

Sunshine brightens the deep blue atmosphere

Purple lilac fragrance permeates the air.

Rainbow colored tulip beds

Irises display their blossoming heads.

New songbirds tweet and sing above.

Gently, spring has sprung with hope

gladness and love.

Sunlight, Sunlight

092903_1606[00]

Sunlight, Sunlight, oh, please visit my way

and shine on me and keep me warm this chilly day.

Sunlight, sunlight piercing through the clouds

touch this sleeping soul so new life may be roused.

Sunlight, sunlight brightening the forest green

You fill me with hope as I wander through the trees.

Sunlight, Sunlight, while these days are slipping by

help me to share God’s love and to gladly say, “hi”.

Sunlight, sunlight Please help to me safely stay

inside of God’s love through all the winding day.

Sunlight, sunlight, please light up the path that I am to roam

so that one day I’ll arrive in my heavenly sweet home.

Sunlight, sunlight, is that you glowing inside of me?

“Yes,” said Jesus, “but to gaze upon my face, you’ll have to wait and see.”

Thinking About Spring

DCP_0911   DCP_0910

Sunshine glistens above the baby-leafed trees as a gentle wind blankets the land and sea.

Purple violets and dandelions too sprinkle the lawn like morning dew.

Radiant rainbow arches high after a thunderous storm has left the sky.

Ivy leaves and new vines begin to sprout starting their journey up a white trellised house.

Nesting robins and joyous meadowlarks tweet happy melodies that warm the heart.

Gentle doe leads her spotted fawn across the wildflower covered meadow land.

In reference to my Winter’s Rainbow poem, I wanted to explain that those wintry illusions we see in the sky are often called sun dogs, but I like to call them winter’s rainbows. The first time, I saw one I was so amazed by it. I have learned since that time, to watch the sky whether it be during the day or at night because you never know when God will show you something awesome and inspiring. The picture that you see here is not the brightest sun dog that I’ve seen. I didn’t have a camera at that time so it only remains in my memory. These ‘rainbows’ illusions can occur when the temperature is very cold, say around 0 degrees F. or colder. Due to very cold temps this year, I have seen several of them in a short amount of time. It is as if God is giving us a ray of hope as we trudge through these very cold and wintry days. Here is a question, what do you find inspiring during the winter months?

Winter’s Rainbow

021903_0850[00]

I awoke one early morning when the sky was like a crisp cold Arctic sea.

I donned my warmest attire and embarked on a lonesome journey.

The flat prairie around was covered by a sheet of frozen white snow.

As I traveled in the strange quietness, my eyes noticed the sun’s eerie glow.

Above the horizon of naked trees stripped of their garment of leaves,

I peered into the cerulean blue sky trying not to mind the biting, frigid breeze.

The sun sat low in its skyward climb transmitting the strangest glow.

It was a specter of blinding light surrounded by an arched blazing halo.

Though far away the glittering vision was as brilliant as I’ve ever seen.

It was a rare winter’s rainbow planting a seed of hope inside of me.

Through the remainder of the day I journeyed and toiled to the end.

And in my mind and heart, i held on to that vision, that dazzling and rare rainbow of the sun.
