Decima Poem: Finding Peace in Nature’s Quietness

Glowing flame crowns the silent trees
as the evening sun sits on
the far and distant horizon.
Tis a simple and quiet scene
to gaze upon serenity.
Such soothing gentleness imparts
a hidden smile touching each heart
of all those who seek to witness
the hushed splendor of nature’s rest;
peace found in its’ tranquility.

I just took the challenge of writing my first decima poem in which I must use the word “smile” in one of the “c” lines.  The poem is ten lines with the following rhyming pattern: abbaaccddc. Each line is 8 syllables. If you want to give this challenge try, here is the link to learn all about it:

the field; vision sweet touches

the faint heart with peace.

Jesus is my Keeper

(Paraphrase of Psalms 23)

Jesus is my Keeper; I’ll be content

as He leads me day by day

to pleasant places

to be renewed in him

along life’s pathway.

Although I often stumble through

many trials and snares,

I’ll not be dismayed

 by the evil doer

as Jesus calms my fears.

How my Lord continues to

keep sustaining me

with daily showers of his

blessings with love,

mercy, and peace.

Now I know that without a doubt,

His goodness will stay with me

all the days of my

earthly life

until heaven’s gates I see.

At First

At first, the sun ascended the winter sky.

the day then declared, banishing the dark;

the deep hours of persistent night.

At first, the new snow fallen sparkled

under the light of the shining sun

as if brilliant diamonds were

dispersed in the white frozen surface.

And soon a solitary hare and a squirrel

jumped and ran about on a

creation of ways that interweave

across the ice-crusted pale ground.

At first the oaks, the elm trees,

and the trees of maple,

removed bare of their clothes,

their perfumed autumn garments of resin,

stood resolute to guard this silent scene

where, in the end, there remains

a soft calmness across the ghostly drifts

of twinkled whiteness.

At first a search in the quiet mind:

the trip begins of the thoughtful one

where the heart leads the soul to a

place of relaxing peace.

In the Beginning…

In the beginning, the sun arose in the wintry sky;

as the day brightened, it chased away the deep

dark hours of the lingering night.

In the beginning, the new fallen snow sparkled

beneath the gleaming sunlight

as if glittering diamonds were

scattered on the frozen white surface.

And soon a lone hare and a squirrel

hopped and scampered about

creating crisscrossing paths

across the white barren land.

In the beginning the oaks, the elms,

and the maple trees,

stripped bare of their garments

of resin-scented autumn leaves,

stood guard over this silent scene

where, in the end, there remains

a gentle quietness across the drifts

of whiteness gleam.

In the beginning a searching

journey starts from a wistful

heart and leads the soul to a

place of restful peace.

The Quiet Gift

The commotion of the day

gently ebbs away

into the twilight eve and

descending darkness.

No more worries or

dilemmas to solve.

No more demands to meet

or deadlines to defeat.

No more explanations of why

or expectations you tried so

hard to satisfy.

Just a sweet time to

be with the Lord;

remembering his gentle word

to be still and quietly rest.

A time of thoughtful reflection

Of that day’s direction.

A time to overcome disappointment,

pain, and tears of sorrow

with renewed hope for tomorrow.

By sleeping beneath the Lord’s

silent yet comforting hand

until the sun rises again;

the gift of peace and quietness.

Freku: CHRISTMASTIME

Christians near and far

Herald the birth of our Lord;

Remembering the singing angels,

Immanuel laying in a manger;

Starry, most holy night.

Traveling wise men also came

Many miles beneath the guiding star

Across the desert mountains and the plains;

Seeing at last this most holy sight.

Tending shepherds watched

In reverent wonder and awe,

Mary and Joseph quieting kneeling;

Eternal king and savior peacefully sleeping

 while bringing us his goodness and light.

Remembering the

Savior’s birth who brought us hope

and peace here on earth.

Merry Christmas to all!!

Nature’s SERENADE

Singing birds perched in the trees;

Eager, cheerful twittering upon the flowing breeze.

Rainbow brightens a once stormy sky;

Evergreens and slender pines towering high.

Nights filled with twinkling stars and a hovering moon

Against the black canvas harboring Mars, Jupiter, and Neptune.

Dawning sun beckons a new, glorious day

Edged with peace and gladness along the pathway.

QUIET JOY

Quivers and qualms of earthly life recede

Under heaven’s high vaulting canopy.

Instilled peace into the mind and heart

(which the Savior does impart).

Edging deeply into a once disquieting soul

Tender sweet grace and how so merciful!

Jesus ever present, ever near:

Oh! For a hushed interlude in which to hear.

Yearnings of the past and unfilled dreams

Satisfied in faithful hope and belief.

Awake

Awake to a new sunlit day

Filled with an aura of hope

After sleeping off the memories and pain

Of trying to climb a slippery slope.

How I have attempted to claw and arise

Out the valley of hurt and disappointment

And so finally view the aqua-marine sky

And be robed in new hopefulness.

Standing to be washed and bathed

In the shimmering warm sunshine;

Wrapped tightly in the streaming rays

Of gentle hope and peacefulness.

Though the day be filled with tasks

That I must dutifully complete,

I can still stop and rest at long last

In the sunlit blanket of warmth and peace.

So I will hold my head up high

To wonderingly and wistfully gaze

Into the neon blue sky

Of this glorious new day.

And then my heart may be content

By the many sweet blessings

That the Lord has lovingly sent

To instill my soul with peace and harmony.
