Becky’s Haiku: Be Still
Be still and know I
Am Lord; rest in a quiet
Place inside my grace.
Psalms 46:10a (Holy Bible New International Version):
“Be still and know that I am God.”
Days are ever shorter
And gradually cooler;
As a later sun rise
Filters the morning sky.
Clusters of dangling leaves
Still adorned in shades of green
While clinging to their branching vines
Against the tide of passing time.
But then pause, look, and behold:
Vibrant splashes of yellow, orange, and gold.
And a leaf here and there
Silently lets go floating in the air.
The vaulting sky still illuminates radiant sunshine
As if determined to thwart the swiftly encroaching night.
Squirrels and other creatures too scurry to and fro
Gathering acorns and food before that first winter snow.
Days become ever cooler still
Until there is a blowing wintry chill
And all too soon all the once vivid leaves
Loosen their grasp in a blustery breeze
Fluttering downward, carpeting the ground;
Naturally accepting their time had come.
So quietly Autumn exits allowing Winter
To have its season amid this transitioning weather.
But even so with each new passing day,
I will choose to cherish this time that the Lord has made.
The Lord always leads
Me even though I don’t see
His hand holding me.
He does forever
Stay in my heart this moment.
This hour and all day.
Teaching and even
Guiding me in his love while
Sitting high above.
In heaven over
The clouds and the rain reaching
With his outstretched hand.
He holds on never
Letting go while I rest or
Walk this road alone.
Raining sunshine to
Brighten my way so I know
This day he has made.
Letting go of worry and struggles for tomorrow;
Instead choosing to be content and not entrenched in hatred or sorrow.
Valuing this new day that the Lord has made.
Investing in this time by focusing heart and mind
Not on the glittering distractions of this world;
Gazing rather upon heaven through the eyes of God’s Holy Word.
Maintaining and walking in steadfast faith
On the Lord and his wondrously saving grace.
Making this minute, this hour, and this day count;
Enjoying the sweet quiet time which you have found.
Never forgetting to cheerfully share
Treasures and blessings which the Lord has placed in your care.
Hebrews 13:5 (Holy Bible New International Version):
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
Cling to your faith and let go of your fear;
Remember Jesus is always near.
He is never too far or out of reach;
Only trust and earnestly seek.
Though troubles rise up like ocean waves
Which threaten to overwhelm and overtake
Our trembling spirits and our souls
In peals of crashing thunder rolls.
Time to stop gazing at the swirling sea
And also ignore the wind-swept swaying trees.
Instead in faith lift your tear-filled eyes
To the heavenly realms above the clouded sky.
Where the Lord stands watching over you
And sees all that you are going through.
He’s leaning over with an outstretched had
To pull you out of the gripping quicksand.
He is just a prayer, a phone call, away
Waiting to swiftly come to your aid.
Must call on him and truly believe
He can calm any turbulent sea.
And bring you to a safe and peaceful place
Where you can rest and be restored in faith.
So, cling to your faith and let go of your fear;
Remember Jesus is always near.
A perfect day is
One spent with the Lord
By praying and reading his word.
Seeing him in the glowing sunbeam
And hearing him whisper in the breeze.
Feeling his warmth surround your spirit and soul
As you quietly wander along the road.
Seeing him in the beauty of all creation;
In the forest, the shimmering sea, and the lofty mountains.
It is hearing him in the songbirds’ sweet melodies
And in the rushing currents of the river stream;
When you quietly sit and gladly take a rest
Letting this day heal you with gentle peacefulness.
It is not worrying about the duties of tomorrow
Or regretting the past in deep sorrow.
It is not worrying about those who don’t understand or don’t like you
Because they don’t really know your inner beauty or unique attributes.
Instead it is a day of thankfully remembering
That the Lord’s love for you is never ending.
It is a day of enjoying many precious moments
Unhurried and allowing time to slow down a bit.
It is not a day of fear or dread; nor of stressing
But instead a time of seeing hidden blessings.
Hearing a favorite tune wafting through the air
And suddenly realizing an answered prayer.
The perfect day is one set aside just for you and the Lord;
Relishing in his presence, his love, and the hope he gives forevermore.
As the Lord’s shield of
Love wraps me tight then my heart
Feels forever warm.

One day, I went on a stroll along a new path
In hopes of a journey that in my memory will last.
I entered the woods walking, as usual alone, and all the while
Following a narrowly rutted trail.
Upon the ground I kept my eyes ever so keen
Trying not to stumble on the limbs of fallen trees.
I often feel a bit off-balanced and a little clumsy
That the smallest obstruction could render me to my knees.
So very studiously I kept my eyes appealed
For any low-lying obstacle along this trail.
As I stepped carefully along the way
I was surrounded by the emerald greenery of the trees
That towered, swished, and swayed.
Finally I did gaze upward through the leaf-laden trees
Which whispered and swayed in the gentle breeze.
And lo, wouldn’t you know?
The Specter that was peering at me far below?
The glowing sun was so brightly beaming
Like a brilliant iris through the trees was gleaming
Beneath that vast deep blue canvas
Of the high vaulted sky far above us.
And in that gentle and tranquil moment I did know
That the Lord was quietly watching over me far below.
He was keeping me safe and secure
As I continued on my little adventure
Of exploring this peaceful forest of greenery
Where occasional birds musically tweeted.
So indeed this quiet stroll through the trees came to be
A sweet memory that has remained inside of me.
A quiet stroll through
The emerald trees becomes a
Treasured memory.
THANKFUL HEART
Thinking continually of God and his grace;
Holding on to him in a warm embrace.
Attitude and heart set on joy and gladness
Never forgetting from whom we are blessed.
Kindness and love to share
For neighbors, friends, and family everywhere.
Unswerving in faith and hope in the Lord;
Letting him guide in life, prayer, and in his Word.
Helping other and never stop caring;
Eternal life with him always sharing.
Adoration and praise never ending;
Remembering always Jesus is my friend.
Trusting and believing forever in him, Amen!
A winter snowscape awaited me
As one day I gazed out to see
The slender trees mostly bare of their leafy crowns
Motionless as statues in the morning dawn.
Pale sky and ground white with snow
Greeted me outside my window.
A damp chill hung in the wintry air
While inside the temps remained warm and fair.
Such as still and quiet scene
Covered by a soft blanket of gentle peace.
It is the Lord’s loving and nurturing way
Silently reminding that everything will be okay.
Chilled wintry day touched
By God’s peace and grace; I then
Know all is okay.
