Remaining GRATEFUL

745

Gladness enabling the heart to cheerfully sing.

Remembering God’s promises and many blessings.

Able to smile and wipe the tears away.

Thankful for the gift of another dawning day.

Eager yet quietly content to be

Faithfully believing in hope, heaven, and eternity.

Unhurried and not worried about trials of tomorrow.

Living each moment today and choosing to be joyful.

Becky’s Haiku: Luck and Hope

015

Good luck and bad fades

Like the dwindling day but hope

Endures and remains.

I have just attempted another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “luck” and “hope”. I am enjoying the challenges and  again, I have no idea how he chooses the words to use.  If you like poetry challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/2015/07/27/

Perhaps there will be a Rainbow

004

I awoke early one dark morn

And knew there may be a storm.

Oh, how I deeply yearned and sighed

As I gazed up into the dreary sky.

I so wished the clouds to go away

And this would be a much brighter day.

But I knew I needed to be content

With what God had planned; what he had meant.

For I realized the Lord knows what’s best for me

Although I don’t always understand or see.

But I hoped as I tarried along my way

Just perhaps there will be a rainbow today.

Oh that rainbow, that colorful sign in the sky

Which meant God is watching from up high;

A reminder that he faithfully keeps his promises

Through his Holy Word and through his son, Jesus.

That curving multi-colored arch is a testament

That God keeps his promises, his laws, and commandments.

Therefore, no new law or clever scheme of man

Can ever thwart God’s wisdom or alter his plan.

For from the time of Genesis and up to now,

He has maintained what is holy, right, and moral.

And also through his deep love and Jesus’ sacrifice,

We can draw near to him to receive forgiveness and lasting grace.

In our own way we each have strayed and sinned;

We’ve hurt others and deeply grieved him.

But God’s deep love endures as he never gives up;

he patiently waits for our return through his son, Jesus.

Oh to see that sight as I walk through life up a slippery slope;

That sign from God conveying his love and enduring hope.

So just maybe as I slowly tread and journey along the way,

Perhaps there will be a rainbow in the sky today.

Loss of a Dream

039

The loss of a dream

Drains my hope until the Lord

inspires my still soul.

He opens my eyes

With hope renewed and keeps my

Heart forever true.

Focused on him in

His home above, I’m anchored

In faith and his love.

He remains in my

Heart from morning’s dew and through

Night’s shadowy rule.

Now onward I go

Through this new day, trusting

In him all the way.

Ode to Jesus my Savior on this New Day

021

Ode to Jesus my Savior on this bright new day,

A new morning of hope beneath a glorious sun.

While earth is gently touched by its’ gleaming rays

As a sign that God desires to kindly bless everyone.

For beneath the rising sun’s fair brilliance and warmth,

We can reach out to grasp and hold onto everlasting hope.

As when we’re kept warm in a frigid winter near a fireside hearth,

We live in peace and safety under the eyes of God’s watchful scope.

Because within the Lord’s provision, his loving plan,

He devised the only way to perfectly save

The sinful and often hurting man

Through his own Son Jesus whose life on the cross he gave.

Now with the unquenchable hope of a never ending tomorrow,

We can live today free of pain, oppressing fear, and lasting sorrow.

Jesus is the GENTLE SHEPHERD

039

Guide and teacher of God and his amazing love.

Ever passionately kind to help the sick, the mute, and the blind.

Never forsaking, never forgetting; always loving, always forgiving.

Trustworthy and wise, he softly wipes the tears from our eyes.

Listens with tender care to our silent and unseen prayers

Empathic and understanding while remembering his time of suffering.

Savior of all who have sinned as we are drawn closer to him.

Healer of the broken heart and soul, making us stronger and whole.

Eternally and forever faithful, never leaving or letting us go.

Protective shield through every storm keeping us safe from harm.

Hears and sees our tears; knows all our pains through the years.

Everlasting and loving friend on whom we can always depend.

Rescuer and redeemer who saves us for life forever after.

Deliverer of never ending hope and lasting peace for our souls.

Becky’s Haiku: The Storm Within

014

When I hear thunder

And wind, I sometimes fear the

Storm raging within.

For a battle does

Wage inside my soul when doubts

Are nagging me so.

For troubles arise

And not just a few tugging

At me; my heart’s blue.

I lay on my bed with

With tears streaming down as I

Wondered what went wrong.

I try to do what’s right

And show kindness to all but

Still I trip and fall.

So I hide in my

Tiny cocoon not wanting

To leave my small room.

As fear grips and churns

inside, I don’t want to face

the storm just outside.

So I rest hiding

Alone with hands folded tight

As the storm raged on.

Finally I do

Peek out my window in quiet

Hope and gentle peace.

The sky was blue once

Again, you see. The storm was

Gone; God answered me.

Writing 101 Day 20: Treasure

055

The Things I Treasure

Family and lifelong friends

Whose love prevails and never ends.

A vivid blue and warm day

Where glowing sunshine lights the way.

A new path in life; a new road to adventure

And where it might lead I can only wonder.

Sweet melodious birdsong filling the breeze

As the feathered carolers perched in the lofty trees.

Meadows and wildflowers I do adore;

Black-eyed Susans, daisies and more.

Strolling through the forest of towering trees

Oh how Spring gives birth to such emerald beauty.

A quiet, rainy day when I rest inside

Reading and writing to my heart’s delight.

Returning home and walking down memory lane;

Visiting loved ones and close friends.

Walking on the beach and feeling the spray of the sea;

Feeling the sand surround and envelop my bare feet.

Sitting at the park and listening to the whispering wind

Sifting through the branches; softly heard but not seen.

In deep conversation with a close friend

In whom my quiet trust will never end.

Seeing a lemon-tinted sunrise in the early morning

And a glowing orange sunset in the warm evening.

Have the love of Jesus residing in my heart wiping away my sorrows

As he instills hope for today, through the night, and tomorrow.

Writing 101 Day 18: Point of View

023

A Rainy Day Point of View

I awoke one morning to a very gloomy day.

The day before was a nightmare as new troubles came my way.

Filled with new fears and a heaping dose of worry

I absentmindedly gazed at the blurry scenery.

The sky had clouded over in a dark and grayish hue

Which did not help to improve my downcast point of view.

Like the wind blowing and the rain raining on and on

It seemed my new troubles were like hurdles with no end.

I’d just limp over one obstacle while lacking energy and fine grace

Only to meet two more barriers mushrooming in its place.

Somehow I latched onto my faith and kept holding on

As I struggled and stumbled all that day long.

People were kind and very helpful too

Guiding me through the steps I needed to go through.

Even when I don’t realize it, God is always so good that way;

I just lacked the faith I needed to see him that day.

So, I needed to choose to patiently endure this quiet, dreary morning

Which continued in gloom through the day and into the evening.

I needed to choose to trust God when I pray

That step by step he will gladly show me the way.

And sure enough when my spirits most needed a lift,

The Lord delivered a new and beautiful day as his gift.

I took note of this brand new day not letting it go to waste.

I hurried outside to enjoy a long walk beneath the sun’s warm and smiling face.

I walked along a new trail where I’ve never been

And heard the sweetest birdsongs in the whispering wind.

I journeyed along savoring every moment

And smelled the lilac bushes which lined the pavement.

The sky is a vivid blue and the grass an emerald green,

OH how the Lord was reaching to comfort me.

Soon I had come home again, my day’s journey now complete

As I had found new resting peace for my soul, my mind, and wandering feet.

But I know my life journey is continuing on as I awake each new day

For always there is a new road to travel along life’s way.

There will be days of sun and there will be rainy days of worry and gloom

But that worry does not need to be my set, my permanent, point of view.

Like a flooding sunrise, the Lord supplies each day with new hope in my heart

That somehow all will be okay as God promises to never leave me, to never depart.

Becky’s Haiku: Source and Thought

Source of Hope eludes

Me when my thoughts are stuck in

Dark futility.

I have just attempted another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “source” and “thought”. If you like poetry and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/tag/haiku-challenge/
