Becky’s Haiku: Rein and Quest

010

Holding tight to reins of

Control; found I must let go

While on quest of hope.

I have just attempted yet another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “rein” and “quest”. I am enjoying the challenge of putting different and even opposite words in such a short poem.  If you like challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept Ronovan’s latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/category/haiku-prompt-challenge/

SPRING DAY

014

Sun shimmering light brightens the crystal blue sky

Purple lilac blossoms emitting their fragrant perfume.

Rain fed grass glistens like sparkling green Depression glass.

Ivy plants and trees sway ever so softly in the breeze.

Nesting robins call and sing forming a musical chanting ring.

Gentle warmth surrounds me like a soft cloak of perfect peace.

Dandelions dot the emerald lawns displaying their lemon hue at morning’s dawn.

A quiet walk along the tranquil street proves to be a pleasant journey.

Yielding my still heart and mind to the presence of God; holy and divine.

Cloudy Cloudy

DCP_0911

Cloudy cloudy;

The sky is gray and pouty

Threatening to weep and rain.

Hidden from sight

Is the sun’s orbed light

As raindrops fall again.

Thunder, thunder

And flashes of lightning wonder

Peal across the darkened sky

Streaking crooked paths

Against the cloudy mass

In electric zigzag light.

Rainbow, Rainbow

Arching over the dewy green meadow

After a long and stormy night.

Inspiring chirps of gladness and hope

across the forested slopes

Beneath the blue crystal sky.

Morning Prayer

183

As I quietly pause to pray,

I asked Jesus to be with me today.

For at the start of each morning

I am preparing for a new day’s journey.

What each day has in store

Is only known by the Lord.

Must keep on trusting him

To lead me safely home each evening.

Where I can sit and be at rest;

With gladness and peace I am blessed

As I know by faith God is still with me;

Holding and keeping me for eternity.

Pressing Forward

039

Stepping towards each tomorrow,

Set aside sorrow;

Let hope reign for the future.

Days and nights will soon follow

Beneath sun’s shadow

And the pale moon’s faint glimmer.

Let joy enter that hollow

While peace, like marrow,

Fill the heart’s deepest chamber.

Another Gloomy Day?

Clouds were thick and gray;

Dreary morn to my disdain.

Even so, God told,

“Do not be dismayed.”

Quietly I sat to pray

For his help to cope

On this darkened day.

He then brightened my pathway

With his Light of Hope.

Isaiah 41:10 (Holy Bible New International Version):

“Do not fear for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help me: I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Dawn’s Gleaming Light

062

One morning I awoke just before

The dawn’s gleaming light.

Darkness clung like a thorny blackberry

Briar and I thought, “Lo, it’s still night.”

Then eventually as daylight streamed

I glimpsed the grayish, cloud-filled sky;

 How I so wished to see more sun

And watch the glowing orb journey and rise.

How I deeply yearned to be caressed by

Its’ stretching rays of warmth;

Like listening once again to the familiar

Sound of my mother’s soft spoken voice.

The gentleness of her laughter and to

Hear glad-laden words from her lips depart

Would undoubtedly uplift my downturned

Spirit and quicken my beating heart.

How long ago memories do so

Gently prick and needle me

As I rest and remember how

My childhood life used to be.

But lo, I realized with a sudden start

As a new thought occurred and

Did quicken my heart.

The Lord has blessed me with

Another sunshine-filled new day

To cherish it thankfully

And grasp joy along the way.

So, as I gaze upon the dawn’s

Early gleaming light.

I’ll arise, embark on a journey

Letting the Lord be my friend and guide.

Softly Spring Descends

IMG_20160423_142351962

As warmer weather surrounds

And caresses the rotating earth

The scent of spring permeates

The air in the season of renewal and rebirth.

The forests, the meadows, the rolling

Hills and the wildflower fields

Are elegantly robed in a canopy of

Emerald green; earth’s lush cover shield.

Tweeting and chirping, twittering

And trilling; oh how the songbirds love to sing.

Whether at the break of early dawn or in the orange

Twilight, nature’s choir joyously rings.

A walk through the forest in the midst

Of a sun drenched and warm afternoon

Through the lakeside cluster of trees where

A distinct honk is heard of a lone wandering goose.

And the chirps of crickets and frogs echo in the trees

 Which are softly clothed in new budding leaves.

Following a hidden and narrow rutted path

Up and down the forested hillside

Gazing far into the horizon where

The tips of treetops meet the sapphire blue sky.

The welcomed warmth of the glowing sun

Wraps itself around like a cloak of security

As if to hold me sure and steadfast

While strolling by the quietly lapping sea.

I strain to see distant images of

 Ducks and other visiting waterfowl

Who silently rest upon the lake

And along the flowing ripples remain afloat.

Meanwhile the southerly and gentle breeze

Rustles the swaying branches speaking to me.

The blowing wind gusts louder and

Stronger reaching a frenzied climax

Before quieting to whisper

After its high-pitched performance.

I couldn’t help but wonder, “What message is the

Shifting wind trying to convey to me?”

As I strolled contentedly over the hills and

Through the softly swishing trees.

I imagined the wind to reply, “It is spring;

A season of new blessings and a fresh new start.

See and remember this quiet journey through

 The forest and keep it in your heart.”

Then all too soon this day’s trek through

The countryside abruptly ends

But not before remembering that a new day

 And another journey will soon begin.

When LOVE RAINS

IMG_20160420_100034375

Lingering raindrops in the grayish sky

Overcast with a sheet of clouds drifting by.

Venturing out on a dark and dreary day

Ever wishing for the clouds to dissipate.

Remembering just then that God has a plan

As Jesus, his only Son, he did send.

Inflicted and laden with all my wickedness;

Not hesitating, he suffered and died for my sinfulness.

So like the rain covering the grass, he came to hold me steadfast.

Therefore as the droplets fall and cling to the land,

He quietly descends and  takes my hand.

Becky’s Haiku: Life and Path

Somewhere along this

Life’s journey is the one way path

To eternity.
