After the Rain

001

The sun brightly appears after a stormy spell

Letting everyone know that all again is well.

The shrilling wind has lessened its’ churning

While the pelting rain has ceased it’s drumming.

Trees, shrubs, flowers, and everything green

Is bathed in wetness on this summery day in Spring.

A new fresh scent permeates and filters the air;

A welcomed sign that the earth is renewed and fair.

Such a sweet blessing to remember and realize

That the loving Lord is in charge: rain, snow, or sunshine.

And at night when the orange setting sun is dipping low,

He stays in charge of all our nights, our days and every tomorrow.

Writing 101 Day 20: Treasure

055

The Things I Treasure

Family and lifelong friends

Whose love prevails and never ends.

A vivid blue and warm day

Where glowing sunshine lights the way.

A new path in life; a new road to adventure

And where it might lead I can only wonder.

Sweet melodious birdsong filling the breeze

As the feathered carolers perched in the lofty trees.

Meadows and wildflowers I do adore;

Black-eyed Susans, daisies and more.

Strolling through the forest of towering trees

Oh how Spring gives birth to such emerald beauty.

A quiet, rainy day when I rest inside

Reading and writing to my heart’s delight.

Returning home and walking down memory lane;

Visiting loved ones and close friends.

Walking on the beach and feeling the spray of the sea;

Feeling the sand surround and envelop my bare feet.

Sitting at the park and listening to the whispering wind

Sifting through the branches; softly heard but not seen.

In deep conversation with a close friend

In whom my quiet trust will never end.

Seeing a lemon-tinted sunrise in the early morning

And a glowing orange sunset in the warm evening.

Have the love of Jesus residing in my heart wiping away my sorrows

As he instills hope for today, through the night, and tomorrow.

Writing 101 Day Five: The Unfinished Letter

055

Years ago I sat down and wrote a letter

To my loving and devoted grandmother.

However, I did not take the needed time

To complete and finish every line.

Instead I took a break to run errands,

Return to work, and enjoy the weekend.

I had allowed other things to become more important

Than my grandma who waited for me with gentle patience.

I had started the letter stating that I was well and enjoying the sunshine

And that I hoped she was also doing splendidly fine.

And that was about all that I had written down

As autumn exited and winter entered town.

Then came Christmas and a visit with family

I visited with my grandmother then beside the ornamented tree.

I paid another visit to her as she rested in a nursing home

And held her frail hand that once was so strong and warm.

I returned home and back to my daily life

My letter still unfinished and even out of sight.

My father then called one day with the unwelcome news;

Grandma had passed in the night before morning was due.

Tears stung my eyes as I heaved with a grieving heart

Now emptiness grew in me like an abyss, very deep and dark.

“Do not be so sad,” my caring father tried to say,

“she passed peacefully and she wanted it that way.”

For my grandmother had lived her life in lasting faith in God;

She believed in his love, his guidance, his gentle staff and rod.

 And she had completed the special deeds she was given

And the Lord had rewarded her with a new home in heaven.

I remembered the letter that I had never finished;

Now it means nothing; a white page of emptiness.

Now with great regret I couldn’t help but think

about my grandmother waiting for it so patiently.

Then I thought of my grandmother with Jesus at her side

Who knew everything and was so very wise.

Perhaps he lovingly told her about my unfinished letter;

Though I never completed it, I also never stopped loving her.

In this way, I try to remain satisfied and steadfastly content

Knowing that my grandmother is alive and well in the kingdom of heaven.

Journeying Towards TOMORROW

041

Twilight descends darkening the horizon

Over is this day as night time settles in

Mindful in prayer of all God has done

Overwhelmed by his mercy, grace, and love

Reminiscing  of the days and years swiftly passing by

Renewing my heart in hope while dreams fill my mind

Onward I look towards a new dawning day

Walking in the sunshine with Jesus leading the way

Summer Slipping Away

054

Oh no oh my, oh look at how time does fly!

It seems just yesterday, that summer just came

Although a bit cool and some drenching rain

But now oh no! But now look, oh woe!

Summer is quietly slipping with each passing evening

Must enjoy and treasure this time while I still can;

I must soak in the warmth and beaming sunshine.

Before the hot blowing breeze become intensely freezing

And before the stately trees are stripped bare of their fluttering leaves.

Oh yes and before the lush green landscape becomes heavy laden

With snow so blinding, so hurling that there’s no escaping!

But oh, let me slow down and pause for this intervening clause,

Like an old friend, autumn will first come with brilliant shades of red, orange and

Yellow before they fall away turning a dull brown.

Humidity will lessen its grip leaving the atmosphere fresh and

Clear; no longer heavy and thick.

Oh yes, gentle Autumn will wrap itself around me

With its sweet aromas and cool blowing breeze.

But still I need to decide today with no further delay

To enjoy this sizzling summer before it finally slips away.

Daily Prompt: Weather Weather Affecting Me

023

Weather, weather, whatever it may be

Sometimes has a deep and profound effect on me.

If the wind is howling and it starts to snow

 I become Irritated if there is any place that I have to go.

If the rain is falling and the skies are dark and gray

Then I want to stay in bed and read the day away.

If crashing thunder and flashing lightening should come

Then I want to safely hide beneath a blanket in my tiny home.

If walking at twilight when the sunset is warm and brightly glowing

Then I want to hear the birds sing and the bullfrog’s deep throated croaking.

If late in the dark when the sky is clear and the moon is full and bright

I want to gaze and wonder about the stars and planets shining in the night.

If I awake and find warm sunshine brightening a vivid blue sky

Then I want to especially enjoy this day not letting it slip by.

Spring Time

Sunshine brightens the deep blue atmosphere

Purple lilac fragrance permeates the air.

Rainbow colored tulip beds

Irises display their blossoming heads.

New songbirds tweet and sing above.

Gently, spring has sprung with hope

gladness and love.

Sunlight, Sunlight

092903_1606[00]

Sunlight, Sunlight, oh, please visit my way

and shine on me and keep me warm this chilly day.

Sunlight, sunlight piercing through the clouds

touch this sleeping soul so new life may be roused.

Sunlight, sunlight brightening the forest green

You fill me with hope as I wander through the trees.

Sunlight, Sunlight, while these days are slipping by

help me to share God’s love and to gladly say, “hi”.

Sunlight, sunlight Please help to me safely stay

inside of God’s love through all the winding day.

Sunlight, sunlight, please light up the path that I am to roam

so that one day I’ll arrive in my heavenly sweet home.

Sunlight, sunlight, is that you glowing inside of me?

“Yes,” said Jesus, “but to gaze upon my face, you’ll have to wait and see.”

Thinking About Spring

DCP_0911   DCP_0910

Sunshine glistens above the baby-leafed trees as a gentle wind blankets the land and sea.

Purple violets and dandelions too sprinkle the lawn like morning dew.

Radiant rainbow arches high after a thunderous storm has left the sky.

Ivy leaves and new vines begin to sprout starting their journey up a white trellised house.

Nesting robins and joyous meadowlarks tweet happy melodies that warm the heart.

Gentle doe leads her spotted fawn across the wildflower covered meadow land.
