Star Gazing

Mars. Jupiter, and Saturn

Making celestial appearances

When gazing into the deep night sky

 While armed with my Stellarium app and camera.

I continue to ponder in wondrous awe

At the vastness of our Milky Way.

Finding numerous star clusters

As well as the heart and soul nebulae.

Searching ever deeper into

The vast darkness of space

I might find the far off Pinwheel galaxy

And I may spy that brilliant blue star, Spica.

Or, perhaps our nearest galactical neighbor, Andromeda.

I can search the deep heavens in star struck wonder

Never tiring of the distant hidden treasures

Which emerge in view after nightfall.

There was that time I stayed for nearly twelve hours

after high noon just to glimpse the strawberry moon.

For years with a sense of adventure,

I had often dreamt to be

Aboard that fictitious journeying vessel,

Star Trek’s spaceship, Enterprise,

Voyaging upon the dark ocean of space;

That forever vast night time sky.

Palms 8:3-4 (Holy Bible International Version):

“When I consider your heavens,  the work of your fingers,  the moon and stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?”

Note: Most of the photos you see above were taking while using the Stellarium app on my kindle fire except for the strawberry moon photo.

Becky’s Pantoum: Somewhere Deep inside the Forest

044

Somewhere deep inside the forest

Like sky-scraping statues stood a cluster of trees.

While the evergreens remained firm and steadfast,

Leafy limbs swayed in the whispering breeze.

Like sky-scraping statues stood a cluster of trees

As two chattering squirrels scurried about;

Leafy limbs swayed in the whispering breeze

While they clamored and climbed the forking boughs.

As two chattering squirrels scurried about

Spying enticing acorns dangling way up high;

 While they clamored and climbed the forking boughs,

The squirrels scampered toward the sunlit sky.

Spying enticing acorns dangling way up high

While the evergreens stood firm and steadfast,

The squirrels scampered toward the sunlit sky

Somewhere deep inside the forest.

Becky’s Pantoum: On a Warm Summer Day

While studying about poetry, I learned about a new form of poem known as a pantoum. Such a poem can contain a number of stanzas with each stanza making up 4 lines. The rule is to repeat the lines and in doing so link the stanzas together into a continuing story. Repetitive phrases begin in the 2nd stanza as the second and fourth lines of the first stanza become the first and third lines of the next stanza. Follow that pattern with each new stanza until the last. In the last stanza the 2nd and 4th line of the previous refrain still become the 1st and 3rd lines in the final stanza and then also the 1st and 3rd lines of the very first stanza become the 4th and 2nd lines of the last stanza respectively. The poem is linked together in one narrative, or story, with the very first phrase of the poem becoming also the conclusion.

On a warm summer day

The lemon orbed sun had dawned

Stretching its transparent rays

To softly caress the ground.

The lemon orbed sun dawned

Waking the robins and chickadees to sing;

To softly caress the ground

While a twittering chorus does ring.

Waking the robins and chickadees to sing,

The sun continues to rise;

While a twittering chorus rings

Filling the endless prairie sky.

The sun continues to rise

Stretching its transparent rays;

Filling the endless prairie sky

On a warm summer day.

Becky’s Haiku: Hope and Up

052

In hope I depend

On Jesus, my friend; lifting

My eyes up to him.

I have just attempted yet another haiku challenge from Ronovan Writes blog using the words “hope” and “up”. I am enjoying the challenge of putting different and even opposite words in such a short poem.  If you like challenges and haiku’s then I invite you to also accept his latest challenge at this link: https://ronovanwrites.wordpress.com/category/haiku-prompt-challenge/

GIFT OF THE SUNSET

695

Gently, softly, this day concludes

In twilight’s glowing interlude.

Future endeavors laid to rest;

Tomorrow will appear soon enough.

Over the mountains and sea, the sun has journeyed;

Finally resting upon the windswept prairie.

Thankfulness fills the mind and heart;

Happy contentment it does impart.

Every blessing today received;

Sent from the Lord who watches and sees.

Under the canopy of a pink streaked sky,

Nestles the sun on the brink of encroaching night;

Seeping  lower, dipping down.

Evening soon clouds the darkened horizon.

Time to rest while wrapped in the cloak of deep night

Knowing the sun will dawn at morning’s light.

WHISPERED HOPE

IMG_20160519_204057109

Wind whistling through the trees;

Honeysuckle waves in the breeze.

Invisible birdsong filters the air;

Sunshine warmth makes the day fair.

Pine trees, ever green, punctuate the horizon;

Ear tingling croaks and chirps chime in.

Reddish glowing sunset;

Evening fireflies flutter and rest.

Day gently fades to darkened night;

Heavens glisten with twinkling starry lights.

Overhead the full moon dimly glows;

Peace and quiet reign beneath its shadow.

Even in the deepest and darkest night,

May the flame of hope in our soul

Be a shimmering, radiant light.

The Narrow Bridge

052

Crossing the narrow

Bridge, I wondered what new place

Lay over the ridge.

Perhaps a meadow

Of flowers or a stream filled

With rippling water.

Or perhaps a new

Mountain to climb and reach its’

Peak to touch the sky.

Sometimes a problem

needing a solution and

I must trust in him.

Sometimes it is pain

And grief when sad news reaches

Me; must still believe.

In life I’ve learned each

day is a journey to lean

on Jesus only.

Letting him lead the

Way through the trials and

Triumphs each new day.

He continues to be

My Savior, Lord and true friend

For eternity.

So as I cross a

New bridge I’ll lean on him to

Reach that distant ridge.

WAVES OF GRACE

183

Wake each new morning

As the glistening sun is dawning.

Visiting Jesus our Lord in prayer;

Ever thankful he is our everlasting Savior.

Sounds of birds joyfully singing;

Over the treetops their trills are ringing.

Family and dear friends come to mind;

Gifts of friendship, love, and laughter entwine.

Reaching to grasp this bright new day

And enjoying all that God has made.

Ceasing never; his blessings amounting.

Ever and forever, his love and mercy abounding.

Elusive Peace

IMG_20160529_151609782

Going through a bit of writer’s block, I decided to try using one of the prompt words from WordPress Daily Post at https://dailypost.wordpress.com/prompts/

 I was intrigued by the prompt word, “elusive” and so was inspired to write about that in a new poem:

I sometimes dream of a place

So peaceful and serene;

A vision which only

My mind’s internal eye can see.

Clear and ever vivid blue

Is the vaulted, stretching sky

As the glowing sun beams

From its destined home on high.

With the ground adorned

In a carpet of lush green grass

Unmarred by any intruding footprints

And the absence of a meandering path.

Statues of towering trees

Swished and swayed beneath

The foliage of rustling leaves.

No other near or distant sound

Met my ever straining ears.

No other hints of movement

Or voices were detected or heard.

The vibrant image lasted perhaps

A few seconds at the most;

Like the fleeting appearance

Of a shimmering ghost.

Just a simple, tranquil place

Where I can quietly be

If only for a moment in the night

In a reoccurring dream.

Becky’s Haiku: The Lord Leads Me

IMG_20160529_151609782

The Lord always leads

Me even though I don’t see

His hand holding me.

He does forever

Stay in my heart this moment.

This hour and all day.

Teaching and even

Guiding me in his love while

Sitting high above.

In heaven over

The clouds and the rain reaching

With his outstretched hand.

He holds on never

Letting go while I rest or

Walk this road alone.

Raining sunshine to

Brighten my way so I know

This day he has made.
